  • B&N aims to make taking the train more entertaining

    Barnes & Noble is targeting train passengers by offering a curated collection of free eBooks and eMagazines to Amtrak customers.

    During Amtrak Train Days, which runs from May 9 through November, Amtrak passengers with Nook e-readers will be able to access bestselling eBooks from HarperCollins, in addition to other classics and popular self-published titles from Nook Press that have been customized to appeal to every reading preference, including romance, mystery, thrillers, children’s and business titles.

  • Net-A-Porter to launch mobile-app-based social network

    New York -- Online high-fashion retailer Net-A-Porter is launching a mobile-app-based social network that will allow users to buy luxury goods, interact, and do a host of other things as well.

    The app, called “The Net Set allows consumers to recommend products to friends, check out the latest trends, upload and share images and shop from among 350 fashion collections. The brands will gain direct access to communicate with Net-a-Porter’s customers for the first time.

    Shedding light on how Walmart plans to achieve digital and physical balance in its supply chain this week was Tracy Rosser, the retailer’s senior vice president of transportation and supply chain.

  • Warby Parker continues to expand, opens store in Chicago

    New York -- Hip online eyewear retailer Warby Parker continues its brick-and-mortar expansion. The company has opened its 12th store to date, in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood.  

    The 2,200-sq.-ft. store is Warby Parker’s first permanent location in the Midwest. It joins locations in cities across the nation, including such as New York, Miami, Dallas and Los Angeles.

    New York -- Kohl’s Corp. has rolled out a buy online, pick-up in store service to all Kohl’s stores nationwide, allowing customers to pick up their orders within hours at their local Kohl’s store.

  • Kohl's expands 'shop online, pick up in-store' service

    Kohl's shoppers have responded so well to store pickup for online orders that the retailer is rolling out the service to all 1,164 of its stores in the United States.

  • Web revenue generated from smartphones rising

    Pittsburgh - Revenue from shoppers on smartphones rose 73% over the last year, according to a new report from Branding Brand's Mobile Commerce Index released Wednesday. In April 2015, smartphone revenue accounted for 13% of total online revenue, which represented a 63% year-over-year increase.
