    Target announced a partnership with Instacart in Target’s hometown of Minneapolis. This is Target’s first experiment with same-day delivery of products, and it coincides with the expansion of their grocery and fresh business.

  • Toys 'R' Us, Kohl's look to fill more than 100,000 holiday jobs

    Toys “R” Us and Kohl’s are among the first retailers to announce their holiday hiring plans this year, and the numbers are more or less the same as last year for both companies.

    Toys “R” Us plans to hire 40,000 employees at its stores and distribution centers throughout the country (about 5,000 less than last year). The retailer also plans to allow seasonal workers the opportunity to take on significantly more hours than in previous years, while also continuing to provide extra hours to current employees.

  • Study: Contactless mobile payment set to grow

    NFC-enabled contactless mobile payments, such as those enabled by smartphone-based digital wallet services like Apple Pay and Android Pay, currently make up a tiny fraction of card transactions. However, a new study from Indian mobile solutions provider Mahindra Comviva suggests contactless mobile payments are set to grow quickly.

  • Sports Authority asks customers to get fit and reap the (retail) rewards

    The Sports Authority is teaming up with Under Armour and MapMyFitness on a new fitness rewards program.

    The retailer says rewards members soon will be able to earn retail rewards for completing activities within the MapMyFitness app.

  • Strong cost cutting, weak sales at Toys 'R' Us

    Toys ”R” Us says a planned decrease in promotions led the retailer to report a drop in same-store sales in the second quarter.

    The retailer singled out declines in the baby, entertainment and seasonal categories as contributing to the comp drop as well. However new CEO Dave Brandon sounded a positive tone regarding the company’s profit potential.

  • Study: Marketers, consumers discover mobile apps

    San Francisco – Marketers and consumers are both discovering mobile apps in a big way.

    According to the second Mobile App Advertising Trends Report from marketing technology provider Kenshoo, marketers increased their investment in mobile apps 293% in June 2015, compared to the same period a year earlier.

    This increased investment followed a 346% increase consumer mobile app installs and 32% increase in click-to-install rate.

  • Target faces class action suit

    It’s official – Target Corp. will face a class action lawsuit related to its November 2013 data breach.

    A federal judge in Minnesota has granted class action status to a suit brought by five financial institutions – Umpqua Bank, Mutual Bank, Village Bank, CSE Federal Credit Union and First Federal Savings of Lorain.

  • Inland Real Estate Acquisitions acquires three properties totaling 607,000 sq. ft.

    Oak Brook, Ill. -- Inland Real Estate Acquisitions, Inc. announced the acquisition of three properties, located in Florida, California and Colorado, purchased in August on behalf of an Inland affiliate. The acquisitions collectively total more than $104 million for approximately 607,000 sq. ft. of commercial real estate.
