    Eager to streamline the in-store shopping experience, Lowe’s will introduce a fleet of retail service robots this fall throughout select stores in the San Francisco Bay area.  
  • Ikea Plugs In More Fuel Cells

    Ikea is expanding its renewable energy commitment with state-of-the-art fuel cell technology.

    Based on the success of a pilot installation, the Swedish home furnishings retailer plans to install biogas-powered fuel cell systems at four stores in California.

    A year ago, Ikea completed installation of a similar project at its location in Emeryville, Calif., one of the company’s two San Francisco-area stores.

  • Kantar Retail makes holiday sales prediction

    Retailers can expect a slight rise in holiday sales this year compared to last — fueled largely by the online channel.   That’s according to Kantar Retail, which released the industry’s first 2016 holiday sales forecast. It projects growth of 3.8% for the fourth quarter, a slight increase over the 3.4% growth in the year-ago period.

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods runs strong in Q2

    Dick’s Sporting Goods on Tuesday hit a home run, posting second quarter results that surpassed analysts’ expectations and lifting its earnings forecast for the year.   Dick's reported net income of $91.4 million for the quarter ended July 30, up from $90.8 million in the year-ago period.   Net sales increased 7.9% to $1.97 billion. Online penetration for the second quarter was 8.5% of total net sales, compared to 7.3% last year. Same-store sales increased 2.8%.
