  • Twitter tweets plans to file for IPO

    Twitter is going public and announced its intention to file for an IPO with a tweet.

    “We’ve confidentially submitted an S-1 to the SEC for a planned IPO,” stated the tweet. “This Tweet does not constitute an offer of any securities for sale.”

  • Staples to open e-commerce development center in Seattle

    Framingham, Mass. -- Staples plans to open a dedicated to e-commerce and engineering center in Seattle that will house teams responsible for driving major initiatives to enhance areas, including next generation digital platforms, personalization, and big-data. It will be the chain’s first office on the West Coast.

  • Report: Twitter, tablets gain importance in e-commerce

    Conshohocken, Pa. -- Twitter and tablets are quickly rising in importance to retailers’ e-commerce efforts, while email is losing steam. According to the second quarter 2013 Monetate E-commerce Quarterly, Twitter experienced the fastest growth among all social networks in referrals to e-commerce sites, moving from 5.4% of social referrals in second quarter 2012 to 9.64% in second quarter 2013 – a 77% gain.

  • Adobe Target simplifies testing & targeting

    San Jose, Calif. -- Adobe Systems Inc. is upgrading Adobe Target, an element of the Adobe Marketing Cloud, with aims of easing the optimization of digital marketing efforts. The new solution features a completely redesigned, touch-based interface, as well as a step-by-step framework, with built-in best practices, for creating and implementing A/B testing and targeting activity.

  • Belk’s multichannel campaign draws 220,000 registrants

    Southern retailer Belk drew in nearly 220,000 registrants through daily prizes and giveaways in its “Belk’s 125 Days of Prizes” campaign. 

    Belk partnered with mobile, social and digital engagement provider ePrize to power the sweepstakes across a microsite, Facebook and mobile channels. The multichannel campaign, which aimed to promote Belk’s 125th anniversary and to increase consumer engagement with the brand, exceeded Belk’s expectations for engagement across digital channels.

  • Charming Charlie won over by analytics

    Houston – Charming Charlie is establishing a “single version of the truth” across multiple business units, including merchandising, store operations, planning and finance, using the ARC Merchandise Analytics solution from Manthan Systems. The solution is designed to deliver real-time merchandise and performance insights across the retail enterprise.

  • One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

    An article that recently caught my eye adds more evidence to my growing suspicion (and I know I am far from alone in this) that the near-term to mid-term retail outlook might not be quite as positive as we may have thought just a few months ago. The piece, “Gap Stands out Among Retailers in Tough Quarter,” in Women’s Wear Daily highlighted the sobering second-quarter numbers from a long list of big retail brands.   • Macy’s appeals to Millennials with active wear expansion

    Macy’s is looking to enhance its appeal to Millennial customers by expanding its athletic apparel assortment, which will include Nike, the North Face, Under Armour, Calvin Klein Performance and Ideology, to more stores this fall and the addition of Helly Hansen in select locations. 

    This expansion is part of the retailer’s Millennial strategy designed to attract a new generation of customers looking for trend, style and value. Macy’s will begin rolling out new product for men, women and kids to stores and on macys.com this month.
