  • Gap raises 2014 income on positive Q4

    San Francisco -- Gap Inc. raised its annual profit guidance based on its fourth-quarter sales and reduced taxes. The retailer expects to report a profit of $2.86 to $2.87 per share for the year, up from its previous estimate of $2.73 to $2.78 per share.

    Gap reported that its net sales increased 3% for the quarter, to $4.71 billion compared with $4.58 billion for the fourth quarter last year. Same-store sales rose 2%.

  • Dunkin’ Donuts plans Alabama expansion

    Canton, Mass. - Dunkin' Donuts is recruiting franchisees to develop an estimated 10 new Dunkin' Donuts restaurants throughout Birmingham, Alabama, and the surrounding areas. In addition, a number of existing operating restaurants may be available for purchase.

    Currently there are 21 Dunkin' Donuts restaurants operating in Alabama.

    Teen and tween retailer Aeropostale named a new COO and CFO and said its fourth quarter results, while still in negative territory, were not as bad as feared.

  • U.K. retailer Sweaty Betty looks to expand U.S. store presence

    London -- British women’s activewear brand Sweaty Betty plans to expand its presence in the United States. The London-based company has received a strategic growth investment from U.S. private equity firm Catterton. Sweaty Betty operates more than 40 stores in the United Kingdom, and two in the United States, where it also recently launched a website.

  • Woodman’s Foods selects Birdiz for digital engagement

    Iselin, N.J. -- Birdzi, a provider of location analytics and mobile applications for personalized shopper engagement, announced that Woodman’s Foods, an independent and employee-owned grocery retailer with stores in Wisconsin and northern Illinois, is now a member of Birdzi’s Personiphi Network and has selected the company’s Shopper Engagement platform to provide personalized savings to shoppers.

    After a rollout to one store in 2014, Woodman’s Foods will roll out the solution to all of its 15 stores by spring 2015.

  • Aeropostale names COO, CFO; cuts loss forecast

    New York -- Aeropostale Inc. on Monday narrowed its fourth-quarter loss forecast on better than expected sales, margins, and expense management in January, and announced two executive appointments.  

  • Kate Spade to close Kate Spade Saturday, Jack Spade stores; announces China venture

    New York -- In a surprise move, Kate Spade & Company announced it is closing all 19 of its lower-priced Kate Spade Saturday stores and all 12 of its Jack Spade menswear stores. Both brands will remain in the luxury company's portfolio, with Kate Spade Saturday being folded into Kate Spade, and Jack Spade being sold at other retailers and online. The company also announced a new joint venture to speed its growth in China, where it sees a long-term potential for 100 stores.

  • Whole Foods, Instacart partner on same-day floral delivery

    Austin, Texas – The husband or boyfriend who forgets to buy Valentines flowers until late in the day Feb. 14 now has a safeguard. Whole Foods Market and the Instacart grocery delivery app are offering Valentine’s flowers delivered in as little as one hour across 15 major U.S. metros.
