  • Tech Bytes: Three Reasons the Store Remains Crucial in a Digital Age

    Chain Store Age recently published a list of the top 10 most-read stories of the first half of 2015, and eight are directly focused on brick-and-mortar stores. This is no great surprise because even as retail and society and general enter a true “Digital Age,” physical stores remain as crucial as they were in the pre-industrial era.

    Here are three reasons that brick-and-mortar stores are still a vital part of any retailer’s omnichannel strategy.

  • Gap Inc. still struggling with sales declines

    Gap Inc. continues to suffer from a lack of traffic to its stores and Web site, but the sales decline abated somewhat in June.

  • Report: eBay may have more deals up its sleeve

    San Jose, Calif. – The upcoming spinoff of its PayPal unit may not be the only deal eBay Inc. has in the works.

    According to Reuters, eBay is in advanced talks with private equity firm Thomas H. Lee Partners LP to acquire eBay’s enterprise business for close to $1 billion.

  • Cullinan Properties purchases site in Illinois

    Peoria, Ill. - Cullinan Properties has acquired an approximately 264-acre site located at the northeast intersection of interstates 55 and 80 in Joliet, Illinois. The property was purchased from O & S Holdings, LLC who acquired the property in 2008, and originally entered into an agreement to develop a project known as Bridge Street Town Center.

    However, with the sale of the property, O & S Holdings has terminated the original development agreement. “

  • More good news for Stein Mart

    Just months after being named the nation's best department store by USA Today, Stein Mart is reporting a big jump in same store sales for June.

    The Florida-based retailer reported total sales for the five-week period ended July 4 of $121.7 million, a 7.5% increase over total sales of $113.2 million for the five-week period ended July 5, 2014. Same store sales for the five-week period ended July 4 increased 5.8% from June 2014.

  • On heels of strong Q3, Walgreens officially has new CEO

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens Boots Alliance appears to be just getting started. The company posted third-quarter EPS of $1.02 for the period ended May 31, which was 15 cents better than analyst estimates of 87 cents. However, revenue for the quarter came in at $28.8 billion, up 48.4%, against consensus estimates of $29.6 billion. Domestic operations were up 5.3% to $20.4 billion.   
  • Dick’s Sporting Goods to offer two concepts under new banner

    Pittsburgh – Dick’s Sporting Goods is opening a combination store format.

    The retailer will open its first “All-American Sports Center” on July 23 at McGowin Park in Mobile, Alabama. The concept features a Dick's Sporting Goods and a Field & Stream store in one location under the same roof.  

    Customers benefit from an expanded assortment and the ability to move between the two stores once inside, creating a unique, exciting shopping experience, Dick’s said.

    Overstock.com is expanding its already popular online produce delivery service by teaming up with farmers in 35 states.
