Gap Inc. still struggling with sales declines
Gap Inc. continues to suffer from a lack of traffic to its stores and Web site, but the sales decline abated somewhat in June.
Gap Inc.’s same store sales for June were down 1% versus a 2% decrease in the same month last year. Same store sales by global brand for June were:Gap Global: negative 5% versus negative 7% last year;Banana Republic Global: positive 1% versus negative 7% last year; andOld Navy Global: positive 1% versus positive 7% last year.
“As previously announced, we’re taking significant actions to help improve Gap brand’s performance,” said Sabrina Simmons, chief financial officer, Gap Inc. “We’re pleased customers continue to respond favorably to Old Navy’s on-trend collections with the brand delivering yet another month of positive comps.”
Gap Inc. operates 3,300 company-operated stores, over 400 franchise stores, and e-commerce sites.
