  • Japan’s Muji department stores to install NCR’s new self-checkout solution

    New York  -- Verifone announced that Delhaize America has selected Verifone’s multi-media, EMV and NFC-capable MX 925 payment terminals to enhance consumer engagement at the point of sale across all of Delhaize America’s U.S. locations.

  • E-commerce spending to top $300 billion in 2015

    New York -- E-commerce in the United States in 2015 will top the $300 billion mark for the first-time ever, according to Forrester Research’s principal analyst Sucharita Mulpuru.

    “This is big news,” Mulpuru said during a presentation at the National Retail Federation’s annual “Big Show” conference.  

  • Fred's hires former Family Dollar exec as COO

    Fred's Super Dollar has turned to a former Family Dollar and CVS executive to become its next president and chief operating officer.

    Michael Bloom brings to Fred's more than 30 years of experience in small-box general merchandising, supply chain management and store operations, the company said. Most recently, he served as the president and COO of Family Dollar Stores. 

  • Japan’s MUJI Department Stores installs NCR’s new self-checkout concept

    New York -- NCR announced that its SelfServ 90 will be deployed by Ryohin Keikaku Co, Ltd. in Japan. The pilot implementation for MUJI department stores marks the first installation of NCR self-checkout technology in a non-grocery environment in Japan.  Additional deployments are expected for its high-traffic locations inside terminal buildings and metro areas, as well as other stand-alone locations. The MUJI store in Yurakucho, Japan is the site of the initial installation.

  • Fresh Market CEO out, company seeks new leadership

    The Fresh Market is heading into the new year with fresh leadership changes at the top.

    The specialty grocery retailer announced that Craig Carlk, president and CEO, and a member of the board of directors, has left the company and has resigned as a member of the board.

    The board has appointed Sean Crane, executive VP and COO, as interim CEO while the company evaluates candidates to replace Carlock.

  • Investment exec joins Macy's board

    A Maryland real estate investing executive has been elected to Macy's Inc.'s board of directors.

    Leslie Hale, executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of RLJ Lodging Trust, is Macy's 12th director.

  • Former Family Dollar COO named president and COO of Fred's

    Memphis -- Discount general merchandise chain Fred’s has named Michael K. Bloom as its president and COO, effective immediately. Until recently, Bloom held the same position at Family Dollar Stores Inc.; he resigned in early January after just over two years in the position and could be owed as much as $4.8 million in severance by Family Dollar, according to an SEC filing.

  • BJ’s selects Esri’s location analytics solutions

    Redlands, Calif. -- BJ’s Wholesale Club announced that it has adopted Esri’s location analytics solutions to aid in real estate research strategy and business insight analysis.
