    San Francisco — Omnichannel solutions provider RichRelevance has hired Mahesh Tyagarajan, a former WalmartLabs executive, to serve as its chief product officer.
     

  • Lands' End hops to support Easter Egg Roll

    Lands' End has added a digital component to its sponsorship of the White House Easter Egg Roll this year.

    The retailer says this year's theme for the Easter Egg Roll is "#GimmeFive," which encourages Americans across the country to share five things on social media they are doing to eat better, be more active, and lead a healthier life, and supports the First Lady's Let's Move! initiative to help kids grow up healthy and have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

  • David’s Tea files for IPO; sees potential for 300 U.S. stores

    New York -- Watch out Teavana, Canada’s David’s Tea Inc. is looking to boost its U.S. presence. The Quebec-based chain has filed a registration with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for an IPO in which it looks to raise a maximum of $75 million. The company plans to list on the Nasdaq with the ticker symbol "DTEA.”

  • Wal-Mart launches anti-hunger initiative

    Bentonville, Ark. – Wal-Mart is launching the spring “Fight Hunger. Spark Change” campaign, a nationwide initiative inviting the public to take action in the fight against hunger. Working with food companies including Campbell’s, ConAgra Foods, General Mills, Kellogg Company, Kraft, and Unilever, Wal-Mart aims to donate up to $3 million to Feeding America based on customer participation in the #WeSparkChange social media challenge.

  • Google Wallet 9.0 offers improved transaction search

    Mountain View, Calif. – Google has released version 9.0 of the Google Wallet electronic payment app, skipping version 8.0 but only adding a couple of new features. The most significant new feature is a transaction search bar that lets users find past transactions via keyword.

    In addition, a maps widget lets users track stores where they make purchases and locate them on a map. Among other benefits, this feature lets consumers quickly identify purchases made in stores and areas they have not visited.

  • Report: FMI asks for delay in EMV rollout

    Arlington, Va. – The Food Marketing Institute (FMI) is reportedly asking major credit card companies to delay the October 2015 mandate for U.S. retailers to comply with the Europay, Mastercard Visa (EMV) chip-based payment card standard. According to the Wall Street Journal, the FMI sent a letter to Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover Financial Services asking for the deadline to be moved into 2016.

  • Report: San Francisco has lowest retail vacancy rate in the U.S.

    New York -- Prospects for stellar rent growth and low vacancy helped make San Francisco the top-ranked city, followed by New York, in Marcus & Millichap’s 2015 National Retail Index, an annual real estate ranking of 46 major U.S. markets. Rounding out the top five: San Jose (#3); Austin (#4) and San Diego (#5).
