  • American Eagle teams up with Brad Pitt on recycling

    American Eagle is leveraging the star power of Brad Pitt to launch an innovative denim recycling program that will put needy people in affordable homes.

    Customers can bring their old denim into any of American Eagle Outfitters’ 823 stores throughout the U.S. and Canada and receive a 20% discount on a new pair of jeans. Any collected unwearable denim will be shredded and recycled into UltraTouch Denim Insulation and other building materials for use in Make It Right’s affordable homes around the country.

  • Study: Millennials disloyal to brands

    Millennials are not loyal to fashion brands, according to a new study. In fact, 45% of those surveyed by LIM College say nothing can be done to retain them.

    This is according to the results of a new survey, "Shopping Trends Among 18-25 Year-Olds," conducted by LIM College Professors Robert Conrad and Kenneth M. Kambara, Ph.D.

  • Survey: Almost half of smartphone traffic comes from search

    Pittsburgh – Smartphone users are looking for something. According to a new report from Branding Brand's Mobile Commerce Index, 43% of all smartphone traffic came from search in first quarter 2015, a 5% increase compared to fourth quarter 2014.

    According to the report, 27% of smartphone traffic arrived direct; 16% arrived from email; and 14% arrived from referrals.

  • Build-A-Bear launches interactive Promise Pets

    Build-A-Bear Workshop is rewriting the rules on stuffed animals with a new line of toys that are linked to a mobile app.

    The retailer’s new Promise Pets feature a free mobile app that families can download to bring the experience of pet care to life, teaching children about animal care through an interactive play experience. Breeds in the collection include the Golden Retriever, Beagle, Yorkshire Terrier and Persian Kitten. Build-A-Bear plans to introduce more breeds throughout the year.

  • EBay, PayPal seek to maintain synergy, independence

    San Jose, Calif. – EBay and PayPal are clarifying how they will operate the first five years after their planed split into two public companies in the second half of 2015. PayPal Holdings filed an updated Form 10 with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) laying out an operating agreement that maintains ties between the two companies while also ensuring they remain independent.

  • Bath products and bras lift L Brands in March

    L Brands continued to be a bright spot in specialty retail in March, reporting a 9% increase in same-store sales.

    The company said an earlier Easter and the spring break season helped its March sales increase 6% from the year before. L Brands is the owner of Victoria’s Secret, Bath & Body Works and its own eponymous brand. The company reported brisk sales at Victoria's Secret and Bath & Body Works in March.

  • Saks’ Off 5th to open in Beverly Hills

    New York -- Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th will open its first store in Los Angeles County, in the Beverly Connection shopping center in Beverly Hills California.

    The new two-level, 27,000-sq.ft. store will be fashioned in an open, modular layout.

    “Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th’s move to Beverly Hills is an exciting venture for us,” stated Jonathan Greller, president of outlets, HBC (Saks’ parent company).
     

  • NRF creates research and analysis center

    The National Retail Federation is investing millions of dollars into research for the retail industry by creating a new center.

    NRF plans to form a new department called the Retail Research and Analysis Center to bring together all existing research within NRF and expand upon the wide range of issue areas and trends already studied. The center will focus on four main areas: the economy, legislative and regulatory policy, the retail industry and consumers.
