  • Bon-Ton increases e-commerce support

    Milwaukee - The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. is increasing its support of e-commerce with a new 743,000-sq.-ft. direct-to-consumer fulfillment center.

    The facility, which began transitioning fulfillment operations in June, supports the company’s expanding e-commerce business and omnichannel growth plans.

  • Data breach costly for Target

    Minneapolis – Target Corp. has released an estimate of costs related to its 2013 data breach.

    In a 10-Q filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Target estimated it had incurred $168 million in liabilities and was eligible for $55 million in insurance reimbursements (as of August 1, 2015).

    As it awaits regulatory approval of its acquisition of Office Depot, Staples Inc. is focused on making its stores appealing to students with tech items on their back-to-school lists.

    The retailer is offering exclusive student savings with a valid college student I.D. or verifiable .edu email address for online orders.

    New York – L.L. Bean continues to win top marks in overall customer service.

    According to the latest quarterly Stella Service benchmarks, perennial high finisher L.L. Bean took top customer service honors in second quarter 2015. Following L.L. Bean were Mr. Porter, Shopbop, David Yuman and Net-a-Porter.

    New York -- Walmart plans to stop selling AR-15 assault rifles and other modern sporting rifles, a move the company says is motivated not by politics but by falling consumer demand.

  • Target explains chip cards to customers

    New York -- Target Corp. has finished EMV conversion at the point-of-sale. And the retailer is letting customers in on the news.

    The chain has posted an article, “Chip Cards at Target: Five Things You Need to Know Before You Check Out,” and related video on its blog.

    In the posting, Target gives customers some advice for using chip cards, including that they leave the card in the card reader until prompted to remove it.   

  • Report: Mobile commerce to skyrocket

    New York -- Global mobile commerce is set to explode, according to Coupofy.com, a Seattle-based database of online coupon codes.  
    The company predicts global mobile commerce will grow 42% annually between 2013 and 2016, compared to 13% for regular e-commerce. Mobile shoppers will spend an estimated $600 billion in 2018, up from $200 billion in 2014.
