Bon-Ton increases e-commerce support

Milwaukee - The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. is increasing its support of e-commerce with a new 743,000-sq.-ft. direct-to-consumer fulfillment center.

The facility, which began transitioning fulfillment operations in June, supports the company’s expanding e-commerce business and omnichannel growth plans.

The fulfillment center, based in West Jefferson, Ohio, is centrally located for the Bon-Ton store imprint, which operates in the Northeast, Midwest and upper Great Plains. The facility is expected to improve efficiency and accelerate delivery time for customers.

“Our goal is to ensure extraordinary service to our customers,” said Kathryn Bufano, president & CEO, The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. “The facility was designed to improve operational efficiency and enhance the overall customer experience from beginning to end.”

The consolidation of five e-commerce distribution centers into one automated fulfillment center offers an expansion to the company’s shipping capacity with an estimated 40,000 units per day and 350,000 units per day at its peak during the holiday season.

The center is currently staffed with 200 full-time associates and will increase to 400 during the peak holiday season. Bon-Ton Stores is currently hiring seasonal associates for first and second shift with the potential to become permanent after the holidays. Available jobs include: material handlers, processors, and pick and pack associates.
