  • Tanger opens its first center in Florida

    “Property Brothers” Drew and Jonathon Scott joined a slew of local dignitaries at last week’s opening of Tanger Outlets Daytona Beach, its 44th center and its first in Florida.   The Daytona location houses more than 70 stores, including H&M, Francesca’s, Perfumania, Rise Pies Pizza, and Under Armour.  
  • Top exec at Office Depot to leave

    The president of Office Depot’s North American operations is stepping down.   Marc Crosby is leaving the company “to pursue other opportunities,” according to the Sun Sentinel, which cited a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. No date was given for his departure.  
  • Report: Popular online brand to open brick-and-mortar stores

    The online retailer credited with disrupting the mattress category may be moving into the physical space.   Casper, which delivers its mattresses folded in a box, has plans to open a fleet of physical stores, according to help wanted ads placed on its website, according to the New York Post.   
  • Deloitte: Online, physical retailers tied for Black Friday weekend wallet share

    As Black Friday quickly approaches, it is anyone’s game on who will garner the most wallet share — clicks or bricks.    More than three-quarters (76%) of Americans plan to shop over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, and they plan to spend $400 between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday, a slight uptick from last year's intentions to spend $369.

    Retailers had better watch out, as ’tis the season for fraud — especially in an age of omnichannel retail.    Omnichannel retailing opens up new avenues for fraudsters — especially during the holidays, according to the “Annual Holiday Fraud Index” from Radial. The study, based on data from hundreds of clients and billions of data elements, reveals Europay, Mastercard, Visa (EMV), cross-border, and digital gift card trends that could put retailers’ bottom lines at risk.  
  • ICSC: In-store visits to surpass online shopping Thanksgiving weekend

    A majority of shoppers, 81%, intend to do most of their spending in physical stores during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend (Nov. 24-27). This total increases to 95% when you include consumers who will shop at those same physical retailers’ online channels (omnichannel retailers).   These are among the findings of the “2016 Black Friday Consumer Survey” from International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).
