  • Study: Prices not lowest on Black Friday and Cyber Monday

    Solon, Ohio -- Black Friday and Cyber Monday does not always mean lower prices, according to a study by ECRM Analytics that examines Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotions. The analysis exposes many common misconceptions around these two important shopping days.

    ECRM found that when comparing Black Friday deals to other times throughout the year, it is apparent that holiday prices are not always the lowest, with leading retailers promoting higher prices than previously advertised on toys and consumer electronics.

  • GGP plays Santa with ‘12 Days of Gifts’ sweepstakes

    Chicago-based General Growth Properties has unveiled a major holiday mall-marketing program, offering up $30,000 worth of prizes for shoppers nationwide.

    Coined the 12.12.12 Days of Gifts, the national sweepstakes launches Dec. 1 and continues through Dec. 12, prompting shoppers to visit their local GGP mall’s website or Facebook page for a chance to win a prize each day. The grand prize is a $12,000 Shop Etc. Gift Card.

  • Facebook adds a gift store

    New York -- Facebook has added a new service, called Gifts, which allows Facebook users in the United States to buy gifts for their friends on the social media platform. The new feature, rolled out just in time for the holiday shopping season, has the potential to give Facebook an ongoing supply of valuable personal information.

  • New Denny’s in Las Vegas has in-house wedding chapel

    Las Vegas -- Denny has opened a  flagship diner, called "Denny's on Fremont," on Freemont Street in downtown Las Vegas. Among other attractions, the one-of-a-kind diner: boasts an in-house wedding chapel.

  • Walmart and Toys ‘R’ Us most talked about brands on Facebook on Black Friday

    New York -- Facebook said referral traffic to retail sites from Facebook on Cyber Monday increased 240%, compared to average referral traffic for the last several Mondays.

    Among  U.S. retailers, Walmart, Toys “R” Us, Macy’s, Amazon and Converse were the five most talked-about brands on Black Friday, according to Facebook’s People Talking About metric.

  • IBM: Cyber Monday numbers reach all-time high

    Armonk, N.Y. -- IBM reported Tuesday that online spending surged 30.3% year-over-year on Cyber Monday, an all-time high.

    Mobile shopping rose 70% over the prior year.
