  • Cabela’s shoppers exercise gun control

    A precipitous decline in gun and ammunition sales caused a 21.7% drop in first quarter same store sales at Cabela’s where profits were half the prior year level.

    Firearms and ammunition sales declined 39% and 32%, respectively, during the first quarter ended March 29, and total company sales declined 9.6% to $725.8 million. Profits totaled $25.7 million, or 36 cents a share, compared to $49.8 million, or 70 cents a share, the first quarter the prior year.

  • Walgreens teams with Coupons.com on Retailer iQ rollout

    Mountain View, Calif. -- Coupons.com Inc. announced that Walgreens has rolled out its Retailer iQ targeting and analytics platform in all 8,000 stores, designed to make the promotions and checkout experience digital, mobile and personalized.

  • CVS expands digital loading of loyalty cards

    Woonsocket, R.I. - CVS/pharmacy has expanded the ExtraCare loyalty program, allowing members to send more of their savings and rewards directly to their ExtraCare cards. Through the Send to Card feature, ExtraCare cardholders can now digitally send all personalized offers available on CVS.com and the CVS Mobile app, as well as coupons received via email, to their cards in a single click.

    Send to Card was first introduced in 2011 and provided a digital option for select coupons and rewards. Now, ExtraCare members can send more coupons to their cards.

  • Hooters redeems digital promotions with Sparkfly

    Atlanta - Hooters of America LLC has activated Sparkfly to enhance and streamline the capabilities of its new HootClub loyalty program. Through the relationship with Sparkfly, Hooters will gain the ability to redeem digital promotions at any location, regardless of which POS technology is used.

  • Sears offers advice service to loyalty members

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. – Sears is offering a new service called Get Advice to members of its Shop Your Way omni-channel loyalty program. Shop Your Way members can post online requests for advice on shopping decisions and receive answers from both Sears associates and other loyalty members.

    In addition to posting answers, members can also vote on answers they think are the most helpful. The service is designed to generate answers within minutes and currently is only open Shop Your Way members shopping at Sears and not Kmart.

     

  • StyleChat launches fashion app

    Fremont, Calif. - StyleChat is a new, recently launched smartphone fashion app. The free app allows users to find the latest fashion trends from anywhere online.

    Users can then create unique collections, style looks and mix-and-match pieces with items they already have. Consumers can also try on looks on their selfie, and when ready to buy, purchase with one tap.

  • Survey: Most app users don't want to be tracked or receive push notifications while shopping

    Chicago -- Survey results by location-based shopping platform Retale, which aggregates weekly circulars from more than 60 top-line retailers for mobile and digital devices, found that 71% of mobile app users don't like the idea of being tracked into a store via their smartphones.

    More than half (56%) say they are not interested in receiving push notifications while shopping.

  • Barneys deploys iPad app as part of its continuing digital strategy

    Barneys New York has launched an iPad app that offers consumers improved shopping functionality as well as relevant and exclusive content.

    New functions on the app include a Personal Shopping scheduling tool, which Barneys touts as the first of its kind for a luxury retailer. Created in partnership with mobile development and design firm Fueled, the app is now available for complimentary download through the Apple iTunes store.
