    Schaumburg, Ill. -- Simon will be making significant design enhancements to its iconic Woodfield Mall, located in Schaumburg, Illinois, and featuring nearly 300 retail, dining and entertainment options. The transformation starts in January, with a renovation of the Grand Court and followed by a variety of design and comfort upgrades.

    Walmart is hoping to increase the cash in in-store shoppers’ wallets this year by offering a new tax refund service.

    Direct2Cash is a way for customers to collect their tax refunds in cash at stores this tax season. The service is an alternative for taxpayers who otherwise might get refunds via check or direct deposit.

    New York -- Activist investor Starboard Value LP, which helped put together the merger of OfficeMax and Office Depot, issued a letter on Tuesday calling for Staples Inc. and Office Depot Inc. to merge, saying it would lead to greater savings.

  • Report: Home Depot has until July to respond to data breach law suits

    New York -- The Home Depot has been given until July to respond to allegations that its data breach occurred because the retailer did not meet its obligation to comply with security standards and to protect its customers' personal information, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

    At a hearing, U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Thrash gave Home Depot until July 1 and July 15, respectively, to respond to the allegations of consumers and financial institutions.

  • Study: Mobile coupon redemptions exceed norms

    Belmont, Mass. – To ensure coupon redemption, retailers may want to take a mobile approach. A recent study of retailers using CodeBroker mobile marketing solutions showed CodeBroker mobile coupons, ranging from in-app to on-demand offers, resulted in redemption rates as high as 50%.

    The study also showed that multi-channel promotions are highly effective in increasing redemption rates, while on-demand offers, in which consumers request a coupon, have the highest average rate. Other key findings include:

  • Bon-Ton CFO to retire

    York, Pa. -- The Bon-Ton Stores announced that Keith E. Plowman, executive VP and CFO plans to retire in August. His departure will be followed by an 18-month consulting stint.

    The retailer will undertake a national search to find a CFO to succeed Plowman.
