Minneapolis – Although 550 Target Canada headquarters employees are being laid off as Target Corp. prepares to shut down its Canadian venture, the number one person will remain employed. According to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal, Target Canada president Mark Schindele will return to the company’s U.S. operation and assume a new position of senior VP of retail properties.
Schindele joined Target in 1999 as a rug buyer and since that time held positions of increasing responsibility including senior VP of hardlines and senior VP of merchandising operations, the role he held when he was tapped as president of Target Canada in May 2014. Schindele was instrumental in launching the Target Express and City Target store formats.
Aaron Alt, former senior VP and treasurer of Target, has been named CEO of Target Canada to oversee the company’s shut down.
