The president of Target Canada will return to the fold in the United States as the company shuts down its Canadian operations.
According to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal, Target Canada president Mark Schindele will return to the company’s U.S. operation and assume a new position of senior VP of retail properties.
The newspaper also reported that about 550 employees in Minnesota were laid off, the biggest reduction at its headquarters since 2009.
Schindele joined Target in 1999 as a rug buyer and since that time held positions of increasing responsibility including senior VP of hardlines and senior VP of merchandising operations, the role he held when he was tapped as president of Target Canada in May 2014. Schindele was instrumental in launching the Target Express and City Target store formats. Aaron Alt, former senior VP and treasurer of Target, has been named CEO of Target Canada to oversee the company’s shut down.
