  • Delhaize names tech vet CIO

    Delhaize America’s new CIO is confident the company will be able to drive sales growth by leveraging technology.

    Retail technology veteran Michael Laurenti was named chief information officer at Delhaize America and will assume his new responsibilities on November 17. He most recently served as CIO at the privately held 300 unit Belk Department Stores chain. Prior to Belk, he worked at Family Dollar, Linens 'N Things and Toys "R" Us. Laurenti succeeds Deb Dixson who spent four years at Delhaize America and announced her departure earlier this year.

    Boston -- Dollar General maintains its overall opening price point leadership position in Kantar Retail’s fourth annual opening price point (OPP) study. For the third consecutive year, Dollar General‘s overall basket was the least expensive, edging out Walmart supercenter’s basket by 2.5%, representing a widening of the gap between the two in the 2013 study.   
  • Giant Eagle expands Northeast Ohio presence

    Giant Eagle celebrated the grand opening of its newest Market District in Strongsville, Ohio. The Strongsville Market District will be the first Market District location serving the west side of Cleveland.

    The 107,000-sq.-ft. Market District is open 24 hours a day, and will offer restaurant-quality dishes, as well as unique meat, produce, cheese and grocery selections from around the globe.
     

  • Imports to set new record before holidays

    Import cargo volume at the nation’s major retail container ports is expected to see a final surge and set a new monthly record in October as the holiday season approaches, according to the monthly Global Port Tracker report released late this week by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates.

    Chino Hills, Calif. -- PM Realty Group announced that Jeff Rieger has been named general manager for The Shoppes at Chino Hills in Chino Hills, California. PMRG has provided leasing and management services to The Shoppes at Chino Hills since 2008 and has led the repositioning efforts for the 380,000-sq.-ft. lifestyle center.
