  • Nordstrom to make greater Milwaukee debut in 2015

    Seattle -- Nordstrom announced plans to open a store at Mayfair, in Wauwatosa, Wis., the largest mixed-use shopping center in the state. Scheduled to open in 2015, it will be the retailer’s first full-line store in the greater Milwaukee area. Mayfair is owned by General Growth Properties.

    The company plans to open an approximately 140,000-sq.-ft., three-level store. Nordstrom will join Macy's, Boston Store, Crate & Barrel and the Apple Store at Mayfair.

  • ALCO Stores reports favorable quarterly results

    ABILENE, Kan. — Broad-line retailer ALCO Stores asserted that it is off to a favorable start this holiday season, after reporting a 2.7% in sales from continuing operations for the quarterly period ending November 25.

  • Moody’s: Retailers that opened early on Thanksgiving night gained advantage

    New York -- Retailers that opened early on Thanksgiving evening gained an advantage and that promotional activity was about on par with last year, according to a new Moody’s report, “Thanksgiving Weekend: The Early Bird Gets the Worm.”

  • Aeropostale net income edges up in Q3

    New York -- Aeropostale reported Thursday that profit for the third quarter rose to $24.9 million, from $24.1 million last year.
     
    Sales increased 2% to $605.9 million, beating Wall Street’s expected $601.2 million. Same-store sales dipped 2%.

     

  • Bettie Page makes New York City debut

    Las Vegas -- Tatyana Designs opened its first Bettie Page store in New York City, in Manhattan’s Bowery neighborhood. The iconic area has recently become a flashpoint for cutting edge, fashion forward designers.

    "It's perfect for our brand," noted Tatyana Designs co-CEO Jan Glaser. “This is the perfect place for our first store in NYC."

    The new store is the company’s 11th retail location to date.

  • CEO succession unfolds at Coldwater Creek

    Women’s specialty retailer Coldwater Creek said co-founder, chairman and CEO Dennis Pence will relinquish his role of CEO at year end.

    Replacing Pence and joining the board of directors of the Sandpoint, Idaho-based chain will be Jill Brown Dean, the company’s current president and chief merchandising officer. Assuming Dean’s role will be Michele Donnan Martin who joins the company as SVP/GMM responsible for all merchandising functions.

  • FirstData: Year-over-year retail dollar volume growth on Thanksgiving and Black Friday a healthy 5.6%

    Atlanta -- Year-over-year retail dollar volume growth on Thanksgiving and Black Friday was healthy at 5.6% as many retailers started the holiday shopping season earlier this year and consumers welcomed the opportunity to find bargains, according to a study by First Data Corp.’s First Data SpendTrend analysis for Black Friday 2012 compared with Black Friday 2011. (SpendTrend tracks same-store consumer spending by credit, signature debit, PIN debit, EBT, closed-loop prepaid cards and checks at U.S. merchant locations.)

  • Barnes & Noble swings to profit in Q3

    New York -- Barnes & Noble reported Thursday net income of $2.2 million for the quarter ended Oct. 27, compared with a loss of $6.6 million in the year-ago period.

    Revenue was nearly flat at $1.88 billion, missing Wall Street’s expected $1.91 billion in revenue.
