  • Redevelopment begins in Miami Gardens

    Miami Gardens, Fla. — Demolition has begun at Palmetto Gardens Plaza, a 7.1-acre shopping center site in Miami Gardens, Fla. The site is being prepared for the development of a 63,000-sq.-ft. shopping center that will include a 41,000-sq.-ft. Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market and an additional inline and outparcel space of 20,000 sq. ft. — now available for lease.

  • Amazon net income soars in Q1

    Seattle – Amazon.com’s net income soared 32% during the first quarter of fiscal 2014, climbing to $108 million from $82 million the same quarter a year earlier. Net sales increased 23% to $19.74 billion in the first quarter, compared with $16.07 billion in first quarter 2013.

  • Wal-Mart changes Asia management structure

    Hong Kong -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is changing the management structure of its Asia operation with a series of promotions. Scott Price, currently president and CEO of Walmart Asia, will move to a senior management role as executive VP, international strategy and development, real estate, mergers and acquisitions, integration and purchase leverage, based at Wal-Mart's world headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas.

  • SEC charges six with insider trading in EBay-GSI merger

    Washington, D.C. - The Securities and Exchange Commission has charged a former executive with insider trading in advance of EBay’s acquisition of the e-commerce company GSI Commerce where he worked, by tipping friends and relatives with confidential information about the pending deal so they could attain more than $300,000 in illegal profits.

  • Report: Retailers miss mobile push opportunity

    San Francisco - Although 77% of top online retailers have published a mobile app and 62% of them prompt users to opt into push notifications, many of them are missing a significant opportunity to perform push communications. According to new data from mobile analytics provider Other Levels, only 31% of the top 100 online retailers actually sent a message through push notification.

    However, Other Levels data shows that 70% of consumers are open to receiving mobile push notifications. Additional findings include:

  • Leslie's Poolmart opening 20 stores this week

    Phoenix -- Leslie's Poolmart, Inc. said it will grand-open 20 retail locations throughout the U.S. on April 25; stores will open in Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.

    In total, Leslie's plans to open 45 new stores this year, between April and May of 2014.

     

  • Overstock.com announces merchandising/sourcing promotion

    Salt Lake City -- Overstock.com, Inc. has promoted Seth Marks to the position of senior VP of merchandising and strategic sourcing for the online shopping site.

    Marks began his work at Overstock.com in 2013, and has served as VP of sales and special acquisitions. Previously, he co-founded Big Lots Capital, the special acquisitions arm of Big Lots, Inc., and served there as the VP of merchandising.  He also was chief marketing officer and Acquisition Group president of Tuesday Morning Corp.

     

  • EBay Enterprise releases ship-from-store freight solution

    King of Prussia, Pa. - eBay Enterprise is releasing a new offering for clients using its Ship-From-Store solution. The new solution leverages EBay Enterprise’s solutions with freight companies to provide its Ship-From-Store clients with discounted shipping rates, free or discounted branded packing supplies and rebates for high-volume orders that they would not be able to obtain on their own.
