Amazon is expanding its distribution fleet into the Show-Me state, and in a big way.
The online giant will open a new fulfillment center that spans more than 800,000 sq. ft. in St. Peters, Missouri — the first in the state. The building will create more than 1,500 full-time jobs, and employees will engage with Amazon Robotics to complete operations.
The robotics technology will assist employees as they pick, pack and ship small items to customers, such as books, electronics and toys. The depot will augment an Amazon sortation center in Hazelwood, Missouri, that employs hundreds of associates, according to Amazon.
The location was chosen due to its central location, as well as its transportation structure, which consists of international airports and extensive highway, rail and river networks.
“We’re excited to continue growing our team with our first, state-of-the-art fulfillment center in Missouri,” said Sanjay Shah, Amazon’s VP of North America customer fulfillment.
