Report: Amazon considers selling directly to customers in Brazil

3/8/2018
Amazon could be in the early stages of setting up shop in Latin America’s biggest retail market.

The online giant met with “several dozen potential manufacturers” last week to discuss plans to stock and sell products from consumer electronics to perfume in the country, according to Reuters.

Amazon will buy directly from the manufacturers and resell. The company plans to use its own transportation and call centers in Brazil, and will store goods at its facilities in Greater Sao Paulo, one person attending the meeting told Reuters.

This would move Amazon beyond being a marketplace for third-party sellers. It would also represent a major advance into the biggest retail market in Latin America.
