    Gift cards and clothing top the lists of holiday shoppers this year, according to a new Harris Poll conducted for Macy's.

  • RadioShack hires adviser as new CFO

    Struggling consumer electronics retailer RadioShack Corp. has named Carlin Adrianopoli, a consultant with strategic advisory and interim management services firm FTI Consulting, as its new interim CFO.

    Adrianopoli replaces Alix Partners managing director Holly Etlin, who was named interim CFO in September to replace previous CFO John Feray after he resigned.

    Adrianopoli, 39, has been a senior managing director in the FTI Consulting Corporate Finance/Restructuring practice since 2010 and joined FTI in 2002.

    New York – The top holiday purchase items this year range from the less personal to the very personal. According to a recent online survey conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of Macy’s among nearly 1,700 U.S. adults 18 and older who are holiday shoppers, gift cards (61%) and clothing (52%) top the list when it comes to the types of gifts that holiday shoppers plan to buy this season.    Other popular holiday items include:

    Consumers looking to keep a tight grip on their most private possessions may want to check out a new high-tech collection launching at Macy's.

    The store will be selling Royce Leather handbags, wallets and briefcases integrated with fingerprint technology, RFID blocking technology, and GPS technology. In particular, the Royce Leather Freedom Briefcase will be the world's first security bag with DNA-based fingerprint technology. The briefcase enables a single user to access the bag, demonstrating the ultimate in personal and travel security.

    Toronto – Staples Canada has released its sustainability report for the third quarter of fiscal 2014, and highlights include collecting and recycling 116,000 kg of batteries, surpassing its goal of 100,000 kg. In addition, in October 2014, Staples became the first Canadian retailer to launch an exclusive green energy offering for small businesses, letting customers sign up for Bullfrog Power online.

    Toronto, Canada - Today’s consumers increasingly shop online with home delivery, eliminating a valuable trip to the store where they can be enticed to make additional purchases. However, a LoyaltyOne survey of 1,000 American consumers indicates a discount on the online purchase for picking up in store (as has been experimented with by Target and Best Buy) will encourage a majority of customers to select that option.
