Staples Canada meets, exceeds Q3 sustainability goals

Toronto – Staples Canada has released its sustainability report for the third quarter of fiscal 2014, and highlights include collecting and recycling 116,000 kg of batteries, surpassing its goal of 100,000 kg. In addition, in October 2014, Staples became the first Canadian retailer to launch an exclusive green energy offering for small businesses, letting customers sign up for Bullfrog Power online.



Staples Canada and Staples Advantage head offices, as well as 10 Staples stores nationwide have been 100% clean, pollution-free energy from Bullfrog Power since April 2013. Other highlights include:



Collecting 681,474 ink cartridges an increase of 9% from the same quarter in 2013.

Collecting more than 1,000 metric tons of electronics, a 6.5% year-over-year increase.

Collecting 19,311 writing instruments, a 307.5% year-over-year increase.

Currently only active in certain areas of British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, Manitoba and Nova Scotia, Staples Canada’s “Driver Take Back” program collected 10,201.5 kg of electronics, 98,067 cartridges and 810.5 kg of batteries.

Staples Canada was able to reduce emissions by 4,888 metric tons of CO2, the equivalent of almost 49 residential homes.
