  • Department store retailer continues Canadian expansion

    Nordstrom has opened its second full-line store In Toronto. The department store retailer opened a three-level, 199,000-sq.-ft. store at Yorkdale Shopping Centre on Oct. 21. It is the company's second location in Toronto, with the first, at CF Toronto Eaton Centre, opening in September.
  • Shoppers are most loyal to these brands

    Two online brands and an iconic American designer top a list of retail brands that command the most loyalty among consumers.   Amazon, Zappos and Ralph Lauren were the top loyalty leaders in the retail segment in the 20th annual  Brand Keys Loyalty Leaders List.  The ranking, which is 100% consumer-driven, examined 72 categories and 635 brands. Rounding out the top five in retail: Sephora and Trader Joe’s.     
  • Target’s next limited edition collection to feature another big name

    Target Corp. is letting the cat out of the bag early with regards to its next limited edition apparel collection.   The retailer announced its limited-edition spring collaboration will be with popular designer Victoria Beckham. The collection will be available April 9, 2017, at all Target stores and Target.com, the collection. In addition, select pieces from the collection will be available for sale internationally via Victoriabeckham.com.  
  • Connecticut center gives Rouse a foothold in Northeast

    Until this week, Rouse Properties’ northeastern-most retail possession was The Centre at Salisbury in Maryland. But its purchase this week of an 115,000-sq.-ft. center outside of Hartford, Connecticut, gives the developer a footprint planted firmly in New England.  
  • Warby Parker, University Village, Seattle

    Warby Parker goes back to the future — design-wise at its new store in Seattle.   The design recalls the classic library-inspired aesthetic of the brand’s first-ever store in downtown Manhattan, and is outfitted with light oak shelving, spacious marble tabletops and brass detailing.   It also features exposed metal ceiling beams, concrete flooring and skylights.   
  • Another retailer hit with possible data breach

    Specialty retailer Vera Bradley has raised an alert about a possible data breach.   The company said it is investigating a payment card breach that may have affected cards used at the retailer's stores between July 25, 2016 and Sept. 23, 2016. Hackers may have accessed customer data including card numbers, cardholder names, expiration dates and internal verification. Online transactions were not affected.  
  • First Look: Anthropologie debuts new format, Anthropologie & Co.

    Anthropologie’ s experiential retailing concept takes center stage under its new store banner, Anthropologie & Co., with the first-ever location now open in Walnut Creek, Calif.   The 30,000-sq.-ft. store is a visual treat, and features fully decorated showrooms, filled to the brim with custom furniture.   
  • Ross Stores continues aggressive expansion

    It’s shaping up as a busy fall for Ross Stores.   The retailer is opening 25 Ross Dress for Less ("Ross") stores and nine dd's Discounts stores across 16 different states in September and October.   The new locations round out the company's expansion plans to add approximately 90 locations in 2016.  
  • Not your typical off-pricer set to make Brooklyn debut

    Century 21 Department Store is set to open its doors on Fulton Street in downtown Brooklyn.   The store, the off-price retailer’s 11th location, will occupy four floors and 140,000 sq. ft. at City Point, a 1.8 million-sq.-ft. retail, residential and office space under development. It officially opens on Oct. 11.   
  • Time Equities buys Dearborn power center for $20.6 million

    Mid-America Real Estate reported it has arranged the sale of the Fairlane Meadows Shopping Center in Dearborn, Michigan, to Time Equities for $20.6 million. The seller was Ramco-Gershenson Property Trust.   The 157,225-sq.-ft. center is situated within a residential development of the same name. The store roster includes Best Buy, Citi Trends, David’s Bridal, Five Below, and Dollar Tree. It is shadow-anchored by Target and Burlington Coat Factory.
