  • Conn’s plans new stores in Phoenix following second quarter results

    THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Regional consumer electronics retailer Conn’s plans to more than double its footprint in Phoenix following second quarter results, which showed an 18.4% increase in same-store sales.

  • Lowe's picks former GE exec to lead LBM divisions

    Lowe’s has appointed Michael P. McDermott to the newly created position of SVP and general merchandising manager-building and maintenance.

    McDermott will be responsible for the Lumber & Building Materials, Millwork, Hardware & Tools and Rough Plumbing & Electrical divisions. He will report to chief merchandising officer Michael A. Jones.

  • Lowe’s names new senior VP

    Mooresville, N.C. -- Lowe’s Companies announced that Michael P. McDermott will join the company as senior VP and general merchandising manager- building and maintenance, a new position.

    McDermott will be responsible for the lumber & building materials, millwork, hardware & tools and rough plumbing & electrical divisions. He will report to chief merchandising officer, Michael A. Jones.

  • C. P. Hart launches new London showroom

    London — C.P. Hard will open the doors to its new showroom in the Chelsea area of London during this year’s London Design Festival, which takes place Sept. 14 to Sept. 22.

    The new retail space will provide architects, interior designers and consumers with a creative and informative working studio featuring products from C.P. Hart lines.

     

  • Q2 comp-store sales dip at Michaels

    IRVING, Texas — Same-store sales at Michaels Stores decreased 1.3% for the second quarter ended August 3. The dip was due, in part, to a 3.6% decrease in transactions and a 0.4% decrease in deferred custom framing revenue, partially offset by a 2.7% increase in the company's average ticket. 

    The company experienced its strongest sales performance during the quarter in home accents and yarn.

  • Gander Mountain to Bayport Commons in Oldsmar, Fla.

    New York -- Kite Realty Group has signed Gander Mountain into a 30,045-sq.-ft. space at Bayport Commons in Oldsmar, Fla., a northwest suburb of Tampa. CBRE represented Gander Mountain in the transaction.

    A Super Target, Michaels and PetSmart. Anchor the 276,918-sq.-ft. center. About 64,400 people live within a three-mile radius of the center. The estimated average household income is $71,200.
     

  • Old Navy, GNC opening in Middletown, N.Y.

    Purchase, N.Y. — National Realty & Development Corp. www.nrdc.com has announced that Old Navy and GNC will open stores at Orange Plaza, an 815,000-sq.-ft. power center in Middletown, N.Y. Old Navy has taken 13,500 sq. ft. GNC will occupy 1,500 sq. ft.

    Wal-Mart Supercenter, The Home Depot, Kohl’s Department Store, Burlington Coat Factory, Marshalls, Bed Bath & Beyond and Staples anchor the center, which draws from a 12-mile radius with a population of 157,000.
     

     

  • New Sam’s Club opens in Glen Carbon, Ill.

    Bentonville, Ark. – A new Sam’s Club store will open in Glen Carbon, Ill.. on Aug. 29. The store will feature a full-service pharmacy, an optical department and also debut the new Sam's Club Hearing Aid Center, offering technology in hearing aid and personal listening devices with access to a certified audiologist.

    The 136,000-sq.-ft. store will use LED lighting, including in the cooler, freezer box doors and jewelry counter that is 70% more efficient than traditional fluorescent lighting.
