  • BrandsMart to fund $2 million store retrofit with PACE financing

    BrandsMart USA is giving its store in West Palm Beach, Florida, a comprehensive energy-efficient retrofit without tapping into its own capital.

    The chain is the recipient of low-cost financing for the retrofit through the Florida Green Energy Works Program. BrandsMart received $2.225 million from a private investor for the project, which will include new HVAC systems, energy-efficient lighting and a new roof.

  • Hussman acquires Commercial Refrigerator Door

    Hussmann Corporation has acquired Commercial Refrigerator Door Company, Sarasota, Florida.

    Family owned and operated since 1975, Commercial Refrigerator Door offers a full line of Styleline products, including heated and energy-free glass door and frame systems for walk-in coolers and freezers and a wide range of shelving and merchandising accessories.

  • Home Depot honors its innovators

    The big winner in The Home Depot’s innovation award program goes to a line of cordless outdoor power equipment fueled by a 58-volt battery.

    The Atlanta-based retail giant says the annual award recognizes, in its words: “the most revolutionary new products that provide true benefits to consumers and the companies that exceeded expectations in sales, service and program execution.”

  • Dyson planning to go brick-and-mortar

    The maker of bagless and cordless vacuum cleaners and high-tech fans is looking to sell its products in its own branded spaces.

    Dyson is planning to open a store on London’s Oxford Street as a prelude to opening locations around the world, The Daily Mail reported. The company has previously opened pop-ups at the Bluewater shopping center in Kent, England, and in select malls in the United States.

    The company has named Tom Park as president of the retailer's Kenmore, Craftsman & DieHard division.

  • Former Sears exec back on familiar ground

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. --  Michael McCarthy spent 28 years at Sears Holdings before leaving the company in 2011, but now he is back in new senior level role at the Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores.

    In 2012, Sears Holding spun off the Hometown and Outlet division, which is now the operator of 1,215 hardware, appliance and outlet stores and a separate publicly held company.

  • Report: Kmart makes holiday purchases easier

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. – Kmart is making getting an advance jump on holiday purchases a little easier this year.

    Company executives told Reuters the retailer started letting customers make no-down-payment layaway purchases for holiday items the week of Aug. 31.

  • Ikea going bigger in Burbank

    Burbank, Calif. -- Ikea on Wednesday broke ground on a new store that is located less than one mile away from the company’s first-ever store in California and oldest location in the Western United States.

    Ikea is building a new, larger store in Burbank, California. Until it opens on the new site in spring 2017, customers can continue to shop at the existing 242,000-sq.-ft. Ikea in Burbank, which was its sixth overall U.S. store and opened in November 1990.
