Macy’s is partnering with DoorDash as same-day delivery continues to spread throughout the retail industry
The department store giant is joining an ever-increasing number of retailers outside the grocery/CPG vertical partnering with a third-party delivery platform such as DoorDash, Instacart and Shipt. Other recent examples include Bed Bath & Beyond, Sephora, Staples, and Big Lots. And fellow department store chain Belk is offering same-day delivery via a proprietary service.
Leveraging the DoorDash Drive white-label fulfillment service, Macy’s will provide same-day and next-day delivery from more than 500 Macy’s and Bloomingdales store locations across 47 states, without time slots, queues or minimum order sizes required. Delivery will be available later this month through macys.com, the Macy’s mobile app, and Bloomingdales.com. Macy’s is DoorDash’s first department store partner.
Through this partnership, Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s will receive on-demand access to DoorDash’s driver fleet to fulfill customers’ digital orders. All orders placed by noon at Macy’s and 1 p.m. at Bloomingdale’s will be delivered same-day, while orders placed after the cutoff will be delivered next-day.
“America comes to Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s for gifting, and this year will be no different,” said Jeff Gennette, Macy’s Inc. chairman & CEO. “Our customers want more options, including speed of delivery, and our partnership with DoorDash in 500 stores nationwide means they can take advantage of every option we have available, including same-day delivery, even in the week leading up to Christmas.”
“Same-day delivery brings the magic of in-store shopping home for customers,” said Casey North, VP of Drive. “We’re excited to bring this capability to Macy’s so they can delight their customers both during the holiday season and throughout the year. Customers are craving a more convenient, satisfying and safe way to shop, and we’re honored that Macy’s chose our logistics platform to power their on-demand delivery operations, and in turn, delight their customers.”
