Macy's to hire more than 31,500 holiday workers as seasonal hiring dips
Macy’s is ramping up for its busiest season.
The department store giant plans to hire for more than 31,500 full- and part-time seasonal positions at its Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury stores, as well as its distribution centers. Last year, the retailer took on about 38,000 seasonal employees.
According to a recent report by Challenger, Gray & Christmas, U.S. retailers will hire fewer seasonal employees this holiday season than last year as the labor market cools and consumers remain cautious. Challenger expects retailers will add 520,000 jobs in the final quarter of 2024, which is the second-lowest total since 2009.
Macy’s holiday recruitment efforts include an online application process that takes as little as five minutes, with most job offers made within 48 hours, according to the company.
Additionally, the retailer is holding four nationwide in-person holiday hiring events at all stores and supply chain locations on the following days:
•Sept. 26;
•Oct. 24;
•Nov. 21; and
•Dec. 4.
Candidates interested in store positions can also apply in person by visiting any Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, or Bluemercury locations nationwide during the four hiring events.
Candidates interested in supply chain positions can apply online or in person during the special hiring events by visiting Macy’s distribution centers, including those located in Cheshire, Conn.; Goodyear, Ariz.; Martinsburg, W.Va.; North Jackson, Ohio; Portland, Tenn.; and Tulsa, Okla.
