Hungry Howie’s modernizing enterprise operations
A pizza retailer with locations across the U.S. is implementing a new enterprise technology suite chainwide.
Hungry Howie’s has selected Toast to help it create a comprehensive, pizza-specific tech stack which will support modernization of its technology and assist in attracting new franchisees and managing large-scale operational demands. The retailer is deploying Toast restaurant POS terminals and kitchen display systems, as well as the vendor’s multi-location management and payment processing solutions.
In addition, Hungry Howie’s plans to implement the Toast IQ conversational artificial intelligence assistant, which proactively provides AI-based insights.
“Hungry Howie’s has spent over 50 years building a brand based on flavor and incredible service,” said Dan McKay, VP of technology services at Hungry Howie’s. “To continue our growth, we selected Toast as a best-in-class technology partner that truly understands the unique technical demands of our business and the enterprise scale at which we operate. Toast’s flexibility and its ability to integrate seamlessly with our existing partners made it the right choice to help us scale, support our franchisees, and keep our focus on the food.”
Dine Brands Global Inc., the parent company of Applebee’s as well as the IHOP and Fuzzy’s Taco Shop casual dining banners, is also implementing Toast enterprise technology at Applebee’s locations nationwide.
In addition to Toast POS terminals, the agreement will see Applebee’s restaurants deploy Toast Go handhelds, kitchen display systems and the Toast Restaurant Management Suite Enterprise.

Quick service hot dog chain Nathan’s Famous Inc. has also deployed Toast technology in its stores. As part of a larger enterprise effort to aid franchisees with their daily retail operations, Nathan’s implemented Toast self-ordering kiosks nationwide.
“Pizza is one of the most complicated categories in hospitality, and the Toast platform is designed to handle it—from toggling between pickup and delivery to allowing guests to accurately place orders for preferred topping mixes,” said Kelly Esten, chief marketing officer and COO of enterprise at Toast. “We are thrilled to partner with a unique legacy brand like Hungry Howie’s and power the tech stack to deliver that famous flavored crust to more communities than ever.”
Hungry Howie’s has been in business for more than 50 years and operates nearly 500 stores in 18 states across the U.S.
