Giant Eagle Inc. is continuing to transition its distribution facilities from an on-premise warehouse management to a cloud-based solution.

The Pittsburgh-based regional grocer has implemented the Manhattan Associates Active Warehouse Management solution at its largest supply chain facility, a more than one-million-square-foot hub in Bedford Heights, Ohio.

This is the fifth Giant Eagle facility to migrate to cloud-based Manhattan Associates warehouse management technology, with plans to transition its remaining two distribution centers by September 2025.

Giant Eagle says it successfully completed each Manhattan Associates implementation with a return to full production levels within days of launching the updated system. In its first week of operation, Giant Eagle’s Bedford Heights warehouse surpassed corporate expectations, processing hundreds of thousands of inbound and outbound cases.

"The seamless implementation is a testament to the outstanding partnership we have with Manhattan," said Dan Kapalko, VP of technology systems at Giant Eagle. "Manhattan’s expertise and commitment, combined with the collaboration across our teams, have made this a true success. This marks a significant milestone for us, and we’re excited about the continued improvements we’ll see in our operations."

By combining Manhattan Active Warehouse Management with Manhattan Active Transportation Management, Giant Eagle intends to optimize distribution, transportation, labor and automation within a single, cloud-native application.
