Giant Eagle is upgrading its warehouse management capabilities.

Giant Eagle Inc. is transitioning on-premise warehouse management system to a cloud-based solution it will integrate with a leading-edge shipping engine.

The Pittsburgh-based regional grocer has transitioned three of its distribution centers from an on-prem Manhattan warehouse management system (WMS) to the cloud-native, microservices-based Manhattan Active Warehouse Management platform. It plans to shift its remaining four distribution hubs by August 2025.

Giant Eagle said its move to a cloud-native WMS has gone smoothly, with each implementation completed faster than the previous one. Manhattan Associates has been working with Giant Eagle to minimize disruption to its business and return the distribution centers to their prior production levels within days of going live with the new system.

"What I love most about Manhattan Active Warehouse Management is that we'll never need to upgrade again," said Dan Kapalko, senior director of technology systems at Giant Eagle. "This continuous stream of enhancements gives us a competitive advantage, without the cost and disruption of a traditional upgrade."

In addition, Giant Eagle recently adopted the Manhattan Associates Active Transportation Management solution for shipment planning. The tool is equipped with advanced multi-modal, self-configuring and self-tuning intelligence, as well as continuous optimization.
