Giant Eagle digitalizes alcohol cashback
A Pittsburgh-based regional food, fuel and pharmacy retailer is streamlining delivery and management of alcohol promotions.
Giant Eagle is integrating the Swiftly alcohol cashback program into its digital channels. The program replaces traditional mail-in rebates by allowing customers to browse active offers, activate deals through their myPerks rewards account at checkout, and receive cash back quickly via PayPal, Venmo or a digital prepaid Visa. Swiftly manages all state-level compliance, validation, and reimbursement.
"At Giant Eagle, our focus has always been on convenience, innovation, and delivering meaningful value to our guests," said Justin Weinstein, executive VP and chief merchandising and marketing officer at Giant Eagle. "Partnering with Swiftly allows us to enhance our rebate process with new digital capabilities while deepening engagement with both our customers and supplier partners. This collaboration also supports our broader digital strategy to make every aspect of the shopping experience more seamless and rewarding."
Other partnerships Giant Eagle has engaged in to increase its ability to offer promotions include offering customers the Upside app, which provides personalized cash back promotions, since an initial pilot in September 2023.

More recently, the grocer launched the Upside Pay secure mobile payment option across all of its stores. Upside Pay provides instant cash back at the register with no receipt uploads required and allows customers to apply their cash back balance directly at the register. Customers also still have flexibility to pay with a card and upload receipts in the Upside app.
"Alcohol promotions have been one of the most outdated and fragmented areas of retail," said Henry Kim, CEO of Swiftly. "This partnership with Giant Eagle represents a major advancement in how leading retailers are leveraging technology to simplify execution, capture new revenue opportunities, and modernize their customer experience in a complex regulatory environment. It’s a strong example of how collaboration and innovation can deliver measurable value across the entire retail ecosystem."
Founded in 1931 and headquartered in Pittsburgh, Giant Eagle Inc. is one of the nation’s largest food retailers and distributors, operating more than 200 stores throughout western Pennsylvania, north central Ohio, northern West Virginia, Maryland, and Indiana.
