  • Sam's Club seeks to beat Costco on car shopping

    Sam's Club is taking on Costco in the auto buying program business by teaming up with one of the biggest names in car-shopping in an effort to boost its auto business.

    The all-new Sam's Club Auto Buying Program will now be powered by TrueCar, Sam's Club announced Thursday. Sams Club says members will have access to more than 10,000 TrueCar Certified Dealers nationwide, more than three times the nearest competitor in the warehouse club channel (i.e., Costco).

  • Study: Target exiting pharmacy on a high note with consumers

    Westlake Village, Calif. – Target Corp. may be exiting the pharmacy business, but the retailer is doing so on a high note.

    According to the new 2015 U.S. Pharmacy Study from J.D. Power, Target, which in June announced it would sell its pharmacy business to CVS Health for $1.9 billion and rebrand its nearly 1,700 prescription departments as CVS/pharmacy, ranked highest among mass merchandiser pharmacies.

  • Report: Wal-Mart rearranges merchandising responsibilities

    Bentonville, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is rearranging how responsibilities are handled by its merchandising executives. According to the Wall Street Journal, an internal company memo indicates that among the changes is a promotion to chief merchandising and marketing officer for Wal-Mart China for Marybeth Hays, currently serving as senior VP of home for Wal-Mart U.S.

    Hays will replace John Furner in that role. Furner will return to the U.S. in an unspecified position.

    People spent 149% more at Costco than at other retailers, according to mobile-location firm Placed, which linked store spending to tracked locations. Best Buy BJs, Sam's Club and Ikea also ranked high, Advertising Age reported.

    The retailer announced it has expanded its availability of MakerBot Replicator Mini Compact 3D Printers to all 651 Sam’s Club locations nationwide. Select clubs will also feature a new in-club display that prominently showcases a physical MakerBot Replicator Mini Compact 3D Printer, so customers can learn about the technology first hand.
