  • Tech veteran promoted to Oracle Retail VP

    A 30-year industry veteran is taking day-to-day control of the Oracle Retail global business unit.   Oracle has appointed Ray Carlin as senior VP and general manager, Oracle Retail. Carlin will be responsible for leading the Oracle Retail global business unit and report to Mike Webster, Oracle’s senior VP and general manager, retail and hospitality.

As the head of Accenture’s retail practice, Standish will focus on the business strategy and ongoing development and execution of retail industry strategy for clients. She will also manage the company’s retail industry client portfolio.

  • Oracle upgrades POS offering for omnichannel retail

    Oracle is releasing latest version of its Micros Workstation POS hardware suite with an eye toward supporting a seamless customer experience.

    Oracle Micros Workstation 6 hardware solutions are designed to serve as an aggregation point to deliver digital content to store associates and customers. As a result, the POS applications can help retailers provide in-store omnichannel features such as personalized promotions and transactions, clienteling, and “endless aisle” access to a full range of inventory.

  • Survey: Retailers see big benefit in individualized customer experiences

    Retailers estimate they could earn an extra 10% in revenue — which translates into $100 million annually for a $1 billon company — by offering customers and employees a highly individualized experience.

    That’s one of the key retail takeaways of new report by Oracle, which surveyed 300 C-level executives across 10 industries to understand how prepared organizations are to address the fact that consumers increasingly expect, and even demand, to have it their way—whether shopping, communicating, working, or enjoying leisure time.

  • New Oracle suite delivers cloud, hardware

    Oracle is introducing Oracle Retail 15, an enterprise retail suite that includes diverse features such as new cloud-based applications and POS hardware solutions.

    In the cloud area, Oracle is adding four new retail-specific services.

    • Using Oracle Retail Sales and Productivity Cloud Service, retailers can gain real-time insights into comparative sales, salesperson productivity, merchandise productivity, store sales, and store traffic.

  • Retailers Take Enterprising Innovation Approach

    For many years, retail IT was dominated by a traditional “enterprise” model. Using a large, centralized physical server or database, retailers would deploy core business solutions. POS terminals and customer engagement applications primarily served as data collection tools to assist back-end enterprise operations.

  • What vendor is the leading retail software provider?

    One well-known technology provider takes the top spot in installed worldwide revenue for both retail software and retail software-as-a-service (SaaS).

    According to a new study from IHL Group, “Total Retail Software Market,” Microsoft is ranked number one in both categories. IHL estimates the total worldwide retail software market is currently worth $44 billion and will grow 48% in the next five years. Microsoft’s share of retail software is estimated at $5.98 billion in installed revenue.
