    The National Retail Federation (NRF) has been actively campaigning to keep federal caps on debit card swipe fees, and now its constituents are speaking out.  
  • Amazon Prime Day starts with some hiccups

    Online checkout problems are indicative of heavy e-commerce traffic, but still were not what Amazon.com hoped to see in the first hours of Prime Day.   According to multiple media reports, a glitch was causing problems for some U.S. and U.K. consumers attempting to check out their Amazon purchases the morning of Tuesday, July 12. Numerous shoppers tweeted their frustrations using hashtags such as #PrimeDay and #PrimeDayFail. A sampling of tweet complaints includes:

    The J.C. Penney Co Inc. is reportedly developing a new IT facility in a popular overseas location.   
  • Wisconsin planning board overturns mall policy in Jo-Ann’s favor

    Racine, Wisconsin’s planning commission has overturned the local Regency Mall’s policy to suit the signage requirements of new retailers there, according to a report in The Journal Times.   When J.C. Penney closed its doors at the CBL & Associates-owned mall, the vacant space was favorably distributed among three new tenants. All three, however, had issues with the space allotment for their signs.   
  • Sears targets familiar rival with connected home products

    Struggling Sears Holdings Corp. may be aiming its new line of connected home appliances and tools directly at rival department store chain J.C. Penney.  
  • Good news for J.C. Penney

    J.C. Penney announced a positive development on the financial front.   The department store retailer announced it has successfully completed refinancing its $2.25 billion five-year senior secured term loans, which should generate about $24 million in interest expense savings.  
  • Jo-Ann Stores names veteran exec to omnichannel marketing post

    Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores is promoting Chris DiTullio to senior VP, marketing and omnichannel.

    While at Jo-Ann, DiTullio has served as interim senior VP, marketing; VP, e-commerce and omnichannel; VP, marketing and advertising; VP, inventory management; and director, merchandise planning.

  • U.S. shoppers bid Joe Fresh stores adieu

    Canadian retail conglomerate The Loblaw Cos. Inc. is pulling up stakes on store-based operations of its Joe Fresh banner in the U.S.

    According to the Financial Post, Loblaw has closed the final remaining U.S. Joe Fresh store in the SoHo neighborhood of New York, and also no longer distributes the apparel brand through J.C. Penney stores in the States.
