  • What’s on tap for RECon 2016?

    May in Las Vegas is when the dealmakers come out to, well, make deals, as the International Council of Shopping Centers hosts its annual RECon event at the Las Vegas Convention Center and Westgate Las Vegas Hotel. Held May 22-25 and attended by retailers and shopping center owners from around the globe, RECon will display such project wares as mixed-use destinations, outlet centers, and strip and lifestyle projects — and everything in between.

  • PREIT brings DICK'S Sporting Goods and Field & Stream to Viewmont Mall

    Preit has executed a lease that will bring Dick’s Sporting Goods and Field & Stream to Viewmont Mall, Scranton, Pennsylvania.

    The dual store format concept will replace the existing Sears at the property in 90,000 sq. ft. of space. Sears will close this July, with Dick’s Sporting Goods and Field & Stream scheduled to open for business for Holiday 2017.

  • Nordstrom Rack to add two more locations

    The off-price division of Nordstrom plans to open a new store in the nation’s capital, and another in Texas.

    Nordstrom Rack will open at District Center in the heart of Washington, D.C. The approximately 37,000 sq.-ft., two-level store, is scheduled to open in fall 2016, will be the retailer's thirteenth Nordstrom Rack in Washington, D.C./Baltimore area having first opened in the area at Potomac Mills in Woodbridge, Virginia in 1990.

    The CEO of Dick's Sporting Goods said strong back-to-school sales couldn't help his company recover from a slowdown in consumer spending in the third quarter.

    For the third quarter ended Oct. 31, Dick's reported a 0.7% increase in same-store sales. Earnings were $47.2 million, or 41 cents a share, compared with $49.2 million, or 41 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. Revenue rose 7.6% to $1.64 billion.

  • Dick's Sporting Goods taps marketing head to head up new store format

    Lauren Hobart has been elevated to the role of executive VP at Dick’s Sporting Goods and given responsibility for a potential new growth vehicle. Hobart was named executive VP, CMO and general manager of Dick’s new women’s specialty fitness store format, which is branded as Chelsea Collective. Only two store are in operation currently, in McLean, Virginia. and Pittsburgh, but greater growth could be in store now that Dick’s has given a senior executive oversight of the concept.
