  • Dick’s Sporting Goods has healthy Q1; plans 59 new stores

    Pittsburgh – Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. reported healthy net income and sales growth during the first quarter of fiscal 2014, compared to the same period a year earlier. Net income rose 8% to $69.98 million from $64.82 million, while net sales increased 8% to $1.44 billion from $1.33 billion.

    Dick’s Sporting Goods reported healthy net income and increased e-commerce penetration in the first quarter despite experiencing significant challenges in the golf and hunting categories.

    Net income increased 8% to $69.98 million from $64.82 million. Net sales increased 8% to $1.44 billion from $1.33 billion while sames store sales at Dick's store increase 2.3% but declined 10.4% and Golf Galaxy locations. The company anticipates an increase of 1.3% in same-store sales for both the second quarter and full fiscal year.

    Pittsburgh — The Field & Stream specialty retail concept has announced plans to open a new store in Erie, Pennsylvania, on June 13 at Millcreek Marketplace.

    Field & Stream stores carry a wide variety of national outdoor brands including Remington, Sitka, Sage, Simms, Shimano and Yeti and provide a variety of in-store services. The store is not associated with Field & Stream Licenses Co. or Field & Stream Magazine. Dick’s Sporting Goods owns and operates Field & Stream specialty retail stores and FieldandStreamShop.com.

  • Dick’s accelerating outdoor vision

    Dick’s Sporting Goods opened its Field & Stream prototype store last summer and next month the first of eight stores planned for 2014 arrives on the shores of Lake Erie.

    The northwestern Pennsylvania community will be home to Dick’s third Field & Stream store with an opening set for June 13. Dick’s began experimenting with the potential new growth format last August when it opened its first location near its home town of Pittsburgh in the suburb of Cranberry Township. A second location opened later in 2013 in Crescent Springs, Ky.

  • Dollar General, Ross Stores and Dick’s bullish on expansion

    New York -- Dollar General, Ross Stores and Dick’s Sporting Goods are bullish on expansion. For 2014, Dollar General has budgeted $450 million to $500 million for capital expenditures, and plans to open 700 new locations. This follows a record year of square footage expansion during which the extreme-value discounter opened 650 stores. Ross Stores also continues to expand in 2014. The off-price apparel and home fashions retailer is on track to open about 95 new locations in 2014, comprised of about 75 Ross Dress for Less and 20 dd's Discounts.
