HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — Quiksilver, the manufacturer of outdoor sports apparel, has appointed Richard Shields as CFO, effective May 11. Shields will be responsible for all areas of the company’s finance and accounting on a global basis.

Armonk, N.Y. -- IBM announced a definitive agreement to acquire Vivisimo, a leading provider of federated discovery and navigation software that helps organizations access and analyze big data across the enterprise. Vivisimo is a privately held company based in Pittsburgh. Financial terms were not disclosed.

New York City -- JDA Software Group announced that Woolworths, South Africa’s leading and most respected retail chain, selected a number of JDA solutions in fourth quarter 2011.

Scottsdale, Ariz. -- JDA Software Group announced that MC Sports, which operates  more than 70 stores in seven Midwestern states, selected JDA Allocation and JDA Size Scaling to help increase revenue while reducing inventory levels.

Naperville, Ill. -- OfficeMax has been recognized as a JDA Software Group  2011 Real Results Winner for Best in Demand Management.
