  • Bealls to launch new specialty store concept, Bunulu

    New York -- Bealls Inc., the 100-year-old Florida-based department store retailer, is developing a specialty store concept, called Bunulu, which will debut by the end of 2015.

    The new banner, which already has its own website, Bunulu.com, will target a younger demographic, and feature coastal-inspired active lifestyle apparel and accessories for both men and women. National brands will be featured.

  • Stage stores acts on growth strategy

    Stage Stores' approach to operating department stores in small to mid-sized towns enabled the company to grow holiday season sales and profits faster than some of its big city rivals.

    The company’s 853 departments stores, operating under the banners of Bealls, Goody’s, Palais Royal, Peebles and Stage, grew sales 6.6% to $525 million and profits from continuing operations increased 35% to $43.7 million during the fourth quarter ended Jan. 31. Same store sales increased 6.4% and the company’s e-commerce business grew 30%.

  • Redevelopment draws national tenants to Coralwood Center

    Cape Coral, Fla. -- Stiles Realty announced 57,829 sq. ft. of leasing activity at Coralwood Center, one of the largest power centers in Cape Coral, Florida. HomeGoods and Ulta signed new leases totaling 33,819 sq. ft. in fourth quarter 2014. At the same time, anchor tenant Bealls Outlet has signed a lease to expand into a new 24,010-sq.-ft. store, increasing the center's occupancy to 81%.

  • Stage Stores guidance upstaged by holiday sales

    Stage Stores is reporting a strong holiday sales season despite predictions from the company’s CEO that December would be very challenging for apparel retailers.

    The parent company of Beall’s, Goody’s and other stores reported an increase in same store sales of 6.5% for the nine week period ending Jan. 3.

    The resumption of top line growth at Stage Stores enabled the operator of 858 stores to reduce the size of its third quarter net loss, but CEO Michael Glazer is taking a cautious view of the holidays.

  • Stage Stores taps Action Services Group for lighting, electrical maintenance

    Aston, Pa. - Actions Services Group, a national lighting maintenance, sign maintenance and electrical services company, has signed an agreement with Stage Stores for interior lighting maintenance and electrical services for three of its retail brands. The three retail brands include Bealls, Goody’s and Peebles with store locations across the states of Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

  • Loss prevention associates from Old Navy, Beall’s Department Store honored by NRF

    Washington, D.C. — The National Retail Federation (NRF) presented its annual Ring of Excellence, Law Enforcement Retail Partnership and Retail Case of the Year awards during the NRF Loss Prevention Conference and Expo on Thursday, June 12.

  • CBL sells Lakeshore Mall

    Atlanta — CBL & Associates Properties has closed the sale of Lakeshore Mall to a private investor for $14 million. JLL brokered the transaction.

    Belk, Bealls, Kmart, J.C. Penney and Carmike Cinema anchor the 490,086-sq.-ft. retail center in Sebring, Florida. A nearby Sears is a shadow anchor.

    With its 95% occupancy rate, Lakeshore Mall anchors the retail hub that serves central Florida along U.S. Highway 27, the major north-south thoroughfare. Traffic counts average about 38,500 vehicles per day.
