Stage Stores guidance upstaged by holiday sales
Stage Stores is reporting a strong holiday sales season despite predictions from the company’s CEO that December would be very challenging for apparel retailers.
The parent company of Beall’s, Goody’s and other stores reported an increase in same store sales of 6.5% for the nine week period ending Jan. 3.
"We are very pleased with our holiday sales and margin performance. Footwear, women's and cosmetics categories were especially strong. Our customers responded well to our holiday assortments, marketing, promotions and strategic initiatives in stores and in our direct-to-consumer business. In light of our strong holiday sales, we now expect EPS from continuing operations for the fiscal year to be $1.14 to $1.18," said Michael Glazer, president and CEO at Stage Stores Inc.
The company previously indicated full year profits would range from $1.05 to $1.15.
The company plans to report its fourth quarter and full year results on March 3.
Stage Stores operates under banners such as Bealls, Goody’s, Palais Royal, Peebles and Stage where it offers moderately priced, nationally recognized brand name apparel, accessories, cosmetics and footwear.
