  • AmEx: Digital security concerns influence purchase behavior

    Merchants may be losing out on potential e-commerce sales due to shoppers’ concerns over the security of their information in the digital world.  
  • ‘Alexa, pay my AmEx bill…’

    American Express cardholders are now only a voice-command away from browsing their account or paying their bill.   The credit card company is expanding its partnership with Amazon by launching its new Amex skill for Amazon Alexa. The skill brings select experiences of AmericanExpress.com and AmEx’s mobile app to Amazon’s voice service Alexa, within devices like Amazon Echo and Echo Dot.  
  • Study: Gen Z digital, decisive and drone-ready

    More than any generation before it, Gen Z has high expectations related to customer service and engagement across emerging channels.   That’s according to a new report by American Express, “Raising the Bar: How Gen Z Expectations Are Reshaping Brand Experiences.” The study, conducted by Forrester Research, surveyed 1,027 North American Gen Y (ages 23 to 37) and Gen Z consumers (ages 16 to 22).   
  • Leadership shakeup, layoffs at Etsy

    There’s been a couple of change in the C-suite of hand-made goods marketplace Etsy.   The company said chairman and CEO Chad Dickerson is stepping down, to be succeeded as CEO by board member Josh Silverman, effective May 3. Fred Wilson, who has served as lead independent director of the Etsy board, since October 2014, will succeed Dickerson as chairman.  
  • Costco Visa card hits 1 million-member milestone

    Costco Wholesale’s new co-branded Visa payment card is definitely resonating with shoppers.   Since launching its co-branded Citi Visa Anywhere credit card in June, the club retailer reports that 1 million members signed up for the payment card.    “Most of them have it in hand,” Costco’s CFO Richard Galanti said during the company’s earnings call on Dec. 7. “In terms of conversion, usage and new sign up for the card, all [is] good so far.”  
  • Costco’s switch to Visa is paying off

    Costco Wholesale Corp. a better-than-expected quarterly profit, helped partially by lower fees to credit card partner Visa.   Costco, which completed its switch to Visa from American Express during the fourth quarter, said net income rose to $545 million, or $1.24 per share, in the first quarter, ended Nov. 20, from $480 million, or $1.09 per share, in the year-ago period. (The retailer’s profit in the latest quarter included a $51 million gain from a legal settlement.)  
  • AmEx: Holiday spending, mobile usage jumps this holiday season

    It may only be the first week of November, but American shoppers are steadily crossing items off of their holiday shopping lists.   As of the end of September, one-third (33%) of consumers had already started their holiday shopping, up significantly from 25% in 2015. Further, they expect to spend an average of $908, an 8% increase from last year ($839 in 2015). Among affluent consumers, this threshold increases to an average of $1,513.
