Online specialty retailer adds C-level IT exec

5/23/2016

ModCloth, a San Francisco-based e-commerce retailer focused on vintage and independent apparel styles, has named Nicholas Genest as CTO.

Genest joins ModCloth with more than 15 years' experience across consumer, tech and online retail industries. He most recently served as the CTO for the online luxury consignment retailer The RealReal, where he strategically led the development of their mobile, web and data technologies since 2013.

Genest will be based in the company's San Francisco headquarters and report directly to ModCloth CEO Matthew A. Kaness.

"Nicolas is an innovator and an accomplished technologist at creating revolutionary platforms that enable and quickly scale new business models,” said Kaness. “As ModCloth reimagines social commerce - online and offline - in the women's lifestyle retail industry, I'm confident his leadership will be an accelerant to our growth. I'm eager to partner with him.”

Genest also served as CTO of the European leader vente-privee.com in Paris, and in 2011, launched the company's American joint venture with American Express. Previously, he worked at Microsoft on Database and .Net development technologies.

ModCloth recently took its digital brand offline with the "ModCloth IRL (In Real Life) Tour," a series of five pop-up shop events taking place across the country this summer. The company also named a new CFO in April 2016.
