  • Barneys New York teams with Micros-Retail for mobile POS

    Westboro, Mass. -- Micros-Retail, a division of Micros Systems, said Wednesday that Barneys New York has launched the Micros-Retail miStore mobile point-of-sale solution in its flagship New York store, starting this holiday season. 

  • ShopperTrak report: Holiday sales increase 22% for week ending Dec. 17

    Chicago -- A report released Wednesday by ShopperTrak found that holiday shoppers boosted sales 21.7% over the previous week and 1.3% over the same week last year.

    According to ShopperTrak, sales increases during the week ending Dec. 17 made this December on pace to have higher retail sales than last year. Month-to-date figures are up 0.5% over December 2010.

  • Consumer poll: 25% of Americans haven’t started holiday shopping yet

    Yonkers, N.Y. -- The Consumer Reports Holiday Poll released Wednesday found that a quarter of adults in the United States had yet to begin their holiday shopping as of Dec. 19, compared with 17% last year.

    Of those who haven't started shopping yet, 54% cited lack of enough money as a reason, 41% still believe they have plenty of time, while 29% are in procrastination mode.

  • Bed Bath & Beyond Q3 profit rises 28%

    Union, N.J. -- Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. reported Wednesday that profit for the quarter ended Nov. 26 rose 28% to $228.5 million, compared with $188.6 million in the year-ago period.

    Revenue rose 6.8% to $2.3 billion, from $2.2 billion a year earlier. Same-store sales increased 4.1%.

    During the quarter, the company opened seven Bed Bath & Beyond stores, seven Buybuy Baby stores, one Christmas Tree Shops store and one Harmon Face Values store.

  • First Data mid-month overview: Card spending growth solid

    Atlanta -- The SpendTrend report released Wednesday by First Data Corp., which tracks same-store consumer spending by credit, signature debit, PIN debit, EBT cards and checks at U.S. merchant locations, showed that card spending growth has remained solid through mid December.

  • Stater Bros. donates $26K to Toys for Tots

    SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — A regional supermarket chain and its charitable arm once again has donated funds to the United States Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots program.

    Stater Bros., along with Stater Bros. Charities, earlier this month presented a $26,000 check to the program, which will be used to purchase toys that will be distributed to community-based organizations in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.

  • Visa Survey: 77% of Americans haven’t finished shopping

    San Francisco -- A new survey conducted this past weekend by Visa Inc. shows that 77% of consumers still need to buy holiday gifts this week. These last-minute shoppers will spend an average of $278 in the final days leading up to Christmas and Hanukkah.
