  • Macy’s stores across U.S. to open on Thanksgiving for first time

    New York – In a sign of just how competitive the upcoming holiday season is expected to be, Macy’s said that most of its stores will open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving evening. It’s the first time in its history that the company will be open for business on the holiday.

  • Amazon’s unveils 2013 holiday toy list

    Amazon.com has unveiled its 2013 holiday toy list which features, for the first time, top toy picks voted on by Amazon Mom fans and an enhanced Holiday Gift Finder that allows shoppers to filter by age, gender, interests, brands and price points.

  • Sears, Kmart expand Shop Your Way services for holidays

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. – Sears and Kmart are offering members of the Shop Your Way loyalty program a variety of new services for the holidays. For example, Kmart's lease-to-own program through Whynot Leasing, LLC will be available nationwide starting Nov. 22, giving customers a no-credit-required way to take home products immediately.

  • Report: Best Buy plans major iPhone promo

    Richfield, Minn. – Best Buy is reportedly planning a major promotion to boost sales of the iPhone 5c and 5s the week of Oct. 13. According to TechnoBuffalo, an internal corporate memo indicates that consumers who trade in select smartphones that week will receive a $100 credit that can be used to cover the down payment on a new iPhone 5c or 5s.

  • Cafaro signs Five Below, Hot Head Burrito, Carter’s

    New York -- Five Below will debut in two Cafaro malls next summer. The three-million-sq.-ft. Eastwood Mall Complex in Niles, Ohio, will welcome a 9,300-sq.-ft. Five Below. The two-million-sq.-ft. Millcreek Mall Complex in Erie, Pa. will get an 8,700-sq.-ft. store in the Millcreek Pavilion.

    Hot Head Burrito will also open a 2,000-sq.-ft. location, now under construction, at Eastwood Mall. A young chain, Hot Head Burrito operates more than 50 restaurants in six states.

  • Sears to hold first-ever Canadian Thanksgiving Black Friday sale

    Sears Canada is getting ready to introduce the first-ever Black Friday sale in Canada to accompany Canadian Thanksgiving in October.

    "Our customers already participate in our Black Friday sale in November so we wanted to give them one that, in a similar style to the U.S., would accompany our own Thanksgiving Holiday," said Doug Campbell, president and CEO, Sears Canada. "With the variety of sales being offered in stores and online they can pick up new home essentials or even get a head start on their Holiday shopping."

  • College kids snack in the afternoon, to replace meals

    Boston – College students most frequently eat snack foods in the afternoon and are frequently replacing meals with snacks. A new study from marketing agency Fluent shows that 75% of college students replace meals with snacks and afternoon snacking is three times more popular than morning or late night snacking.

  • Retailers report tepid same-store sales for September

    New York -- Retailers reported somewhat disappointing same-store sales for September.  While only a handful of chains still report their monthly revenues, the tepid results of those that do raised concerns about the upcoming holiday season.
        
    Gap Inc. reported that its same-store sales in September 2013 net sales were down 3% versus a 6% increase for September 2012. Net sales were flat compared with last year, totaling $1.46 billion compared with net sales of $1.45 billion for the year-ago period.
