    Office Depot is leveraging a new back-to-school shopping trend report to drive traffic to its stores this back-to-school season.

    The survey, commissioned by Office Depot, reports the manner in which parents and students approach back-to-school shopping, including who in the family has the most influence over purchasing decisions and whether shoppers stick to a provided classroom list or add personalized items to their school supplies.

  • Wal-Mart makes holiday ‘checkout promise,’ pledges to staff every register

    Bentonville, Ark. -- A day after announcing a disappointing second quarter, Wal-Mart Stores has made an aggressive holiday promise to its customers: the world’s largest retailer says it will staff every cash register from the day after Thanksgiving through the days just before Christmas during peak shopping times.

    Wal-Mart’s "checkout promise" is aimed at addressing lengthy waits in checkout lines.

  • Study: Department stores have best growth opportunity in Canada

    Los Angeles - The Canadian market offers an opportunity for U.S. retailers to expand and to gain experience operating in an international market. According to a new study from market research firm IbisWorld, the U.S. retail segment best suited for expansion into Canada is department stores, followed by men’s clothing stores.

  • Survey: One-in-three shoppers want to see items in person

    Princeton, N.J. – Almost one-in-three (31%) of U.S. consumers say wanting to see/feel items in person would make them shop at a physical store instead of online. According to a survey of more than 1,000 U.S. consumers conducted by digital agency Ripen E-commerce, almost as many (29.9%) wanting to buy an item immediately would spur them to make an in-person purchase.

    Other responses include:

    • 16.9% believe it protects their privacy
    • 14.4% shop in-store to save on shipping costs

  • Walgreens’ Healthcare Clinic enters Dallas-Fort Worth market

    Walgreens is expanding its Healthcare Clinic retail locations with entry into the Dallas-Fort Worth market. The company plans to bring 13 Healthcare Clinic at select Walgreens locations to the Dallas Metroplex by the end of 2014. The first clinic opened July 28 in Southlake.
     

  • Survey: Most back-to-school shoppers won’t buy computers

    Boise, Idaho - More than half of back-to-school shoppers will not purchase computers this year. According to the Crucial.com Back-to-School Shopping Report, which includes responses from 1,000 adults in the U.S., found that 57% of respondents do not plan to purchase laptops, desktops, tablets, or mobile devices for school this year, as a vast majority of consumers are increasingly concerned with becoming more frugal.
