  • Wal-Mart plans first stores in Washington, D.C.

    Bentonville, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores said Thursday it will open its first four stores in Washington, D.C., as part of the retailer’s effort to increase its urban expansion stride.

    Wal-Mart said it plans to open the smaller-format urban stores in Washington, D.C. in late 2012, and said it has met little resistance from the area. The retailer said its poll of 800 locals found nearly three-quarters of Washingtonians favored Wal-Mart coming to the city.

  • Nordstrom Rack to open in Orange, Calif.

    Seattle -- Nordstrom plans to open a  Nordstrom Rack in Orange, Calif. The 35,000-sq.-ft. store will be located at The Block at Orange and is expected to open in spring 2012.

    "We are very excited to move forward with our new store at The Block at Orange," said Geevy Thomas, president of Nordstrom Rack "This is one of the area's top shopping destinations and a terrific opportunity for us to better serve our loyal OC customers."

  • RMC Property Group launches new division

    Tampa, Fla. -- RMC Property Group announced that it has added tenant representation to its scope of services that currently includes leasing and management, brokerage, owner and developer.

    “In many ways, we have been practicing tenant representation for years, assisting our clients in backfilling empty boxes or securing new retail locations for tenants,” said Susie Rice, president of RMC Property Group.

    To launch the new division, RMC Property Group has added real estate broker David Gibson.

  • CBL celebrates opening of The Forum at Grandview

    Madison, Miss. -- Chattanooga, Tenn.-based CBL & Associates Properties announced the opening of Phase I of The Forum at Grandview, a community center development in Madison, Miss.

    The 110,000-sq.-ft. Phase I opened 100% leased with anchors Best Buy, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Stein Mart. The new stores join the existing anchors Miskelly Furniture and Malco Grandview Theater.

    The Forum at Grandview is a joint venture of CBL and The Mattiace Co.

  • Family Dollar, nail salon extend leases at Mountainville Shopping Plaza

    Allentown, Pa. -- New York City-based The Lightstone Group  announced two long-term lease extensions at Mountainville Shopping Plaza, its 118,000-sq.-ft. shopping center in Allentown, Pa.

    Family Dollar has signed a 10-year lease extension for 9,135 sq. ft. of retail space at the shopping center. Studio II Nails has signed a four-year lease extension for 1,500 sq. ft.

    Mountainville Shopping Plaza is anchored by a 33,000-sq.-ft. PriceRite Supermarket, an 11,500-sq.-ft. Retro Fitness gym and a 15,000-sq.-ft. Eckerd Pharmacy.

  • Sbarro to open six Illinois Tollway Oases locations

    Chicago -- U.S. Equities Realty said that Sbarro will open six new quick-service Italian restaurants at the Illinois Tollway Oases.

    Sbarro restaurants will open at the Belvidere, Des Plaines, Hinsdale, Lake Forest, Lincoln and O’Hare Oases, and will vary in size from 700 sq. ft. to 1,240 sq. ft., for a total of 6,360 sq. ft.

  • Christmas Tree Shops opens at Wendover Place

    Greensboro, N.C. -- New York City-based Centro Properties Group said that Christmas Tree Shops has opened a 33,500-sq.-ft. store at Wendover Place Shopping Center, in Greensboro, N.C. 

    Centro Properties Group is the owner of Wendover Place.
     

  • Gap to open in Chile

    San Francisco -- Continuing its global expansion, Gap announced a franchise agreement to introduce its namesake Gap brand in South America. The first Gap store is expected to open in Santiago, Chile, in the Parque Arauco mall, in September 2011.

    Gap has signed a franchise agreement with Komax, for exclusive rights to operate Gap brand stores in Chile. Komax will purchase merchandise from Gap and must adhere to the company’s quality standards.
