  • Maturing Consumers: What Retailers and Manufacturers Need to Know About Their Older Customers

    The fastest-growing age group worldwide in this century will be people over the age of 60. What must retailers and manufacturers know to adapt to this older consumer group? In the first-ever international survey of consumers over the age of 60, A.T. Kearney interviewed 3,000 people in 23 countries to find out what mature consumers want. The short answer: prices and labels they can read, packaging they can open, and more places to sit down in stores.

  • J.C. Penney plans in-store holiday shops

    New York City -- J.C. Penney is adding holiday shops on its main floor, the Associated Press reported.

    The "Wrapt" shop concept will debut in the company’s Manhattan store this week. It will be rolled out to the chain’s stores nationwide on Oct. 24.

    The in-store shops will carry about 300 items, with the majority exclusive to J.C. Penney, according to the report.

  • Halloween forecast is frighteningly good

    So much for the weak economy. A record number of people, 161 million to be precise, are expected to celebrate Halloween this year, according to the National Retail Federations annual survey.

    NRF has been conducting the consumer intentions and actions survey for 10 years and the outlook for this year is the brightest ever with average spending per person expected to increase to $72.31 from $66.28 last year.

    Washington, D.C. -- Halloween celebrations will be booming this year as more people than ever are expected to partake in traditional festivities. According to NRF’s 2011 Halloween Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey conducted by BIGresearch, seven in 10 Americans (68.6%) plan to celebrate Halloween, up from 63.8% last year and the most in NRF’s 10-year survey history.

  • Toys ‘R’ Us unveils enhanced Imaginarium in-store shops

    Wayne, N.J. -- As part of a re-imagination of its Imaginarium brand, Toys “R” Us said Tuesday it will redesign its in-store Imaginarium shops nationwide with enhanced offerings and products in both bricks-and-mortar stores and online.

    The retailer said it will support the Imaginarium redesign and product expansion with a fully integrated marketing program that includes print advertisements, as well as in-store and online boutiques.
