  • A better start for Cabela's in 2015

    Volatile demand for firearms seems to be easing at Cabela’s, which reported a profit rise of 6.9% in the first quarter despite a drop in same store sales.

  • Dunkin’ Brands starts 2015 strong, up to 750 new units to open in 2015

    Canton, Mass. -- Dunkin’ Brands Group had a slam-dunk first quarter, with first quarter profit growth of 11.7%, a revenue increase of 8.1%, and U.S. same-store sales growth of 8% in its Baskin-Robbins unit. The Dunkin’ Donuts segment saw same-store sales climb a more modest 2.7%.

    The chain added 79 net new restaurants worldwide during the quarter, which included 78 Dunkin Donuts in the U.S.

  • Publix fishing for more sustainable seafood

    With more than 1,000 stores in the Southeast, Publix Super Markets celebrated Earth Day with a $160,000 effort to make shrimp aquaculture more sustainable.

    The grocery chain says it is focused on improving the conditions associated with shrimp aquaculture. The donation to the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership will fund research to improve fisheries and help shrimp aquaculture in southeast Asia become more sustainable.

  • CVS campaign urges shoppers to fill their bags

    CVS wants customers to fill their bags, so the drugstore chain is kicking off a "Fill Your Bag" promotional event in all of its 7,800 stores.

    To participate, members of the ExtraCare program can scan their cards at the ExtraCare Coupon Center from April 26 to May 23 to receive a 30% off coupon each week, with a limit of one coupon per week. Customers who participate in store will receive a reusable shopping bag that is free with purchase.

    Sam’s Club has strengthened the value proposition of its membership offering with a new range of high value services designed to differentiate it from Costco while fending off competition from well-capitalized online startup Jet.com.

  • Sportsman's Warehouse expands in Oregon

    Sportsman's Warehouse is resorting to a cash giveaway to ensure a strong crowd at its newest store as it expands in Oregon. 

    To celebrate the grand opening, the first 200 families through the door will receive a free Sportsman's Warehouse $20 gift card and Sportsman's Warehouse hat. When the doors open at the Sportsman’s Warehouse in Klamath Falls, Ore., the store will be the retailer’s sixth location in the state of Oregon.

  • Caribou Coffee leaps into mobile payment

    Minneapolis - Caribou Coffee is making the leap to mobile payment with its first mobile app. Caribou's custom app provides customers with mobile payment and access to the Caribou Perks loyalty program.

    The mobile pay feature allows Caribou Perks members to add funds and manage their account. Caribou Coffee partnered with brand and technology company Modern Climate to create a custom mobile app that delivers a personalized experience. The retailer plans to release updates to the app later in the year.

  • The North Face goes omnichannel for Earth Day

    The North Face is celebrating Earth Day by expanding its Clothes the Loop omnichannel initiative, with the goal of recycling more than 100,000 pounds of apparel and footwear this year.

    The retailer plans to expand its Clothes The Loop recycling program to all of its retail and outlet stores in the U.S. in tandem with an in-store and social media campaign to encourage consumers to recycle unwanted apparel and footwear from any brand in any condition.
